So, a bit of a backstory on this piece.
Some of you know I'm a social studies teacher, and a few of you might remember that I'm a WWII fanatic. I absorb as much as I can that is in anyway related to WWII, and I absolutely adore the Greatest Generation as one that saved the world. Having said that, I think the Tuskegee Airmen are some of the best examples of that generation, and I truly believe these guys to be war heroes and the men who laid the foundation for crumbling segregation in this country. So, when Dreaming Eagles was released in March, I knew it was a must-read. Then I saw an opportunity with a comic shop in Baltimore where the owner was trying to set up signings with surviving airmen ... that was a no-brainer must have for me. So, I present to you the CROWN JEWEL CENTERPIECE of my collection: As a sidenote, one of the signers, Roscoe Brown, passed away 10-weeks after this signing. The grade of 9.6 is of absolutely no consequence to me, as I cannot see myself ever wanting to part with this book. I have had this poster in my classroom for years and showing my classes this book has spurred some great conversations.

That is beyond awesome!!
I remember that signing and almost did it myself but was just caught up in too many other things at the time.

Awesome!
Thank you for being a teacher!!! That is one career field I never even thought about entering. Now that I'm married to a 2nd grade teacher, I know how much work goes into it. It's not just textbooks and tests, there's a LOT more to it. The Tuskegee Airmen are an inspiration and should be celebrated for their heroism and sacrifices that they made for the United States of America!

This was an awesome opp! I also got in on it and got the same cover as you! It's a remarkable historical signing. The person who ran the opp tried to get 2 more for the signing but those fell through.

Glad you all appreciate this as much as I do. If I could figure out a good way to display it in my classroom I'd consider it, but that swastika might be too much. It will certainly look great in the "Den" at home

Bumping this one because another opportunity has presented itself.
Over at the CGC boards Rich Henn sets up a ton of signings, and he is the one that I worked with to get this piece signed and slabbed. GREAT guy, located in MD. Called me personally when my book was back and ready to ship to verify my address. Well, he's working on a 2nd signing opp in March. If you're interested in getting a book signed by one or more surviving Tuskegee Airmen, get on over and let Rich know you're interested. These spots went fast last time and I'd assume more of the same this time around. https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/top...en-signing-op/ |
