Default Cal Ripken Jr card, is patches fake?

I've seen this set have awesome looking patches before but I'm always weary when it comes to patches. I want to believe it's authentic. What do you guys think?

In my opinion the low numbering points to Authentic but the patches being upside down makes me question it....

Unless I saw it pulled myself or from a trusted breaker I would not touch it

I've seen these patches upside down before and I seen a jeter with similar patches but I'm not sure if a guy got a hold of a bunch of these sets and altered them. The card is awesome but I'm not sure whether to purchase it or not

Those patches are par for the course with that set. Looks legit.

My first thought is that this is the way the card was released (wether it was actually game worn or not... your guess is as good as anyone's). If someone was going to fake a patch of Ripken, I'm pretty sure logic would say that they would not risk an autographed card numbered to only 4 copies.

There are tons of low numbered, valuable cards, that have been faked.

Since the seller is Probstein, I would be more confident. You maybe able to check Upper Deck. I know back then I questioned a card to Panini, so I e-mailed them a photo of my card. It was found to be fake, but this was years ago. I stopped buying unique patches since then.

I'm more inclined to think it's real myself just because I've seen fancy patches in this set before but I was curious what your guys opinions on it were. I hate that there is people out there that put fake patches and try to make a quick buck because it makes me doubt every nice patch card.

If somebody altered the card, why would they put the patches in upside down? I'd think they would want the card to look as appealing as possible.

W/O being able to see the rest of the card/sides/back it's tough to say, and I have to disagree here about the seller and trusting the card. I do buy from the seller a good amount, but he gets a lot of items in not so great shape or questionable authenticity just from the sheer about of items sent in. he cannot check each and every item and consignees know that.

see if someone can check worthpoint history for the card. it may have been graded or altered, though that set is known for great patches.

you should also be able to check the other items sent in with this one, each person using prob gets a "page" on ebay. that may help too with seeing what else this person submitted.

The opposite. Patch fakers use probstein for the anonymity.

Unless I pulled this card or saw it pulled, I would always assume it was fake.

Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate the input. Any chance you are planning on selling that jeter? Or have more of that variation?

And not just probstein, but any consignor has this risk. I'm more Pollyanna though. I like believing things are real.

What a stupid comment! So you think a scammer won't take a card that sells for less and make it sell for more just because cal sells low? Tell a scammer how to turn a $100 card to a $200 card they will do it. The value of Ripken signature isb irrelevant. What you just said is what patch fakers and scammers look for.

Not saying this patch is real or fake but this comment is how these crooks get away with this. They always find one!

Cal is my all-time favorite player.
For the life of me I can't tell what the patches have to do with him.

The patch is the 100th anniversary patch for the American League and WAS worn in 2001 by the Baltimore Orioles.
