Default Should the NBA schedule-makers be taken out and shot?

Here's the Warriors schedule this week....

Sunday - @ NY Knicks
Monday - @ Atlanta
Tuesday - fly cross-country to Oakland
Wednesday - BOSTON
Thursday - fly cross-country to Minneapolis
Friday - @ Minnesota
Saturday - @ San Antonio

Five games in seven nights, with cross-country flights on both off days because of a single home game....not sure I've ever seen that before.....

Let's also be clear, they will take those flights at night and have off days where you have them in the air.

Boston to Minn isn't even half way cross country. But as a Spurs fan I love it.

They're at home against Boston so it's still a decent flight.

Regardless, I think every team has some week or two road trip that seems ridiculous so I guess it evens out.

I've never seen anything this ridiculous before, which I why I started the thread.

Teams have played five games in seven nights before, but usually all five games are on a road trip, and in the same or adjacent time zones. Or if the five games are a mix of home/road games, they're all in the same time zone.

I know that the Warriors have had five games seven nights stretches before that include a mixture of home games and trips to Sacramento, LA, or Portland. And they've had them where all five games have been part of single road trip.

But I've never seen a five games in seven nights stretch which includes the team flying coast-to-coast in the middle for a home game sandwiched between a pair of road back-to-backs.

If I was Kerr, I'd be sorely tempted to tank the home game against Boston on Wednesday and have Curry/Thompson/Green fly directly from Atlanta to Minnesota...

Wonder how the older generation players feel...back to back to back nights riding the bus.

Brutal, they're gonna have to eat out so many times and those flights they have to take look so tough.

It'll be good for them, might help them toughen up.

I guess you haven't seen back to back to back games before in the strike shortened season.

Yeah that's a tough schedule coming up for them however, how many times have they had consecutive days off this season? Plus the extra days off for the AS weekend.

Yes people should be taken out back and shot because a group of multimillionaires will be busy traveling on their private jets and staying in luxury hotels while they play basketball for a week. The injustice of this situation can not be ignored. Never has a group of individuals been treated with just disrespect as the Warriors this year. I'm starting to think the NBA is conspiaring against them....

Have a hard time feeling sorry for a team that won 73 games last year, has 4 legit All-Stars and 3 MVPs (including the last 2) and no issue regarding older stars. Will probably do just fine on this stretch. Yes I know Durant is hurt....but still

Not a shot at anyone, just saying

I agree with the OP that this is a poorly designed stretch of games. Even the games in the same time zone have some serious distance between them. New York to Atlanta and Minneapolis to San Antonio are not short trips. I haven't sat down and analyzed each teams schedule, but this definitely seems like it would be more exhaustive than most and would put the team at a disadvantage. I agree with whoever posted about looking at resting players, but I would probably always consider that on back to back nights. The Spurs seemed to figure out how to rest players and still have them ready for the postseason.

As a whole, west coast teams are at a competitive disadvantage in all sports because so few teams are in close proximity and how many teams are on the east coast. I would be interested to see a comparison of miles traveled during a season by each team.

Finally, I think the extreme title of the thread made it difficult to look at the concern being raised.

you keep saying you have never seen this.....my question is this...

HAVE YOU EVER LOOKED FOR IT BEFORE??

i guarantee you havent....but because its ur team you think it is some atrociously unfair thing....i bet if you actually looked at other teams schedules that all of them have had something the same or similar over the last few years....you havent seen it cuz you havent been looking for it!!!!!

Well if you want to have 82 games in a regular season in a league with teams all over the US then this is what you get. I agree that this is a horrible week for them but in general i can't see how it would be possible to plan a season without some teams having to go through something like it.

It's funny that i've seen this issue brought up by the same guys that go nuts if someone even mentions that MAYBE it's sort of ridiculous to have 82 games in a season plus playoffs.

Poorly scheduled stretch of games, yes.

Plenty of teams have this happen to them. Look at the (finally cancelled!) Chicago Bulls' Circus Trip.

I just didn't understand the...anger? Sadness?

It's not that serious.

No they don't.

Cleveland's five in seven sequence in December featured road games in Milwaukee and Detroit book-ending three home games. They get another one in late March/early April which is three home games book-ended by trips to Chicago & Boston.

San Antonio is in the midst of their first five in seven sequence....three home games book-ended by trips to New Orleans and Oklahoma City. They get another one in early April which is four home games and a trip to Dallas.

The Clippers (to use another West Coast team as an example) had a five in seven sequence in December with two home games followed by a New Orleans/Houston/OKC road trip.

No other team has a five in seven sequence with two cross-country flights to enable a single home game in the middle of it.

Golden State also had a 26 day stretch where they got to sleep at home every night. Quite certain they are the only team with that luxury. And nobody had a worse road trip this year than Sacramento. West Coast teams, year in and year out, lead the NBA in distance traveled.
