Leading the league in anything can sometimes mean that you were best of the worst.

Agreed.....not close at this time. If he were to retire today, he wouldn't even be eligible. IMO he needs another 5-6 years of solid pitching to be seriously considered.

Yes, especially after one more CY YOUNG award and hopefully a World Series Ring.

If he can keep this up for a few more years I think so. Dude doesn't quit. Guy is a flat out workhorse.

Sure. Gimme three more 200/200 years with 50 wins, and we'll talk.

He is 1000000% on track to becoming a HoFer. That said, he isn't one yet.

Hes a HOFer in terms of contracts. Getting paid 7 years after you are done playing with the team is a winner in my book

Heh, well it's a non-starter now. He's 32, light on the counting stats, and his premier pitch is the rising fastball, which will start to fade sometime soon.

I don't think his track projects anything close to HOF right now.

I think if he has two more ace level seasons this becomes an interesting conversation. I don't think that would put him there, but he'd be getting close. With pitchers you truly never know. With anybody really, but especially pitchers.

I say no BUT ... I've already purchased an autograph for possible future inclusion into my HOF Auto PC. He has a lot of work to do no doubt but the door is still open.

I see where you're going, say leading the league in hitting into double plays or a hitter leading in strikeouts. However, that would make them the worst of the worst, nothing "best" about it.

I like to look at the JAWS rankings, which is an average of the player's career WAR and their 7 year peak WAR.

Starting Pitcher JAWS Leaders | Baseball-Reference.com

For reference, Scherzer is currently behind Jose Rijo.

I came here to say no, but then I remembered today was April 1st. So I'm not arguing about something I'm pretty sure is a joke.

Edit- now I know it's a joke, because you have Roy Halladay in your argument.

Not quite the idea I'm talking about.

If someone bats .290 and leads the league because everyone else did worse then big whoop. I'm not saying that would be hall worthy. It just means they did the least worst of a down year. Somebody has to have the highest batting average. Or if a pitcher leads the league with 15 wins. Bob Hamelin won the ROY because somebody had to win, not because he was actually all that good of a rookie.

At my job, I'm graded against other people doing the same job across the country. There was a point where I was doing so much better than everyone else that I didn't consider them competition. I ended up trying to best myself on a weekly basis. Now a lot of those people have improved enough to the point where I actually need to watch out for them.

Happy April Fools.

Is this implying Halladay is or is not a HOFer?
