I say yes. And I'd say he's the 2nd best QB that the Cowboys have had. I despise Dallas, so Cowboys fans may disagree with this, but I'd rank him ahead of Aikman, obviously Staubach is the best QB they've ever had. Romo didn't win the rings that Aikman did, but he also didn't have the loaded teams that Aikman had, and was a better passer.

Nope.
He accumulated some great stats. That can't be argued. He's never even been to a Conference Title Game. Conference. Hall of Very Good as they say.

I think he was on pace but he needs another very good year or two. That or a championship. People don't realize just how good his numbers are. Most of his career he played on pretty unbalanced teams and he was the only thing keeping them competitive.

Not even close, doesn't even have a top 5 case for his generation.
P. Manning, Brady, Brees, E. Manning, Roethlisberger all have much stronger cases and then there is Rivers, Ryan etc

Nope, career numbers fall short, not much post-season success.
He is 39th all time in yards - behind McNabb, Hasselback, Esiason. He is 21st in TDS - better, just behind Bledsoe and above Esiason He is 4th all-time in passer rating - although that is dominated by all recent guys and is more of an indication of the offense you ran. I think Bledsoe and Esiason are pretty good comps for him. Neither of which are in the HOF. |

If he got to finish out his career with the current Dallas team he probably would have put up good enough numbers. But sitting on the bench or going to a stinker team will hurt his chances.

I say no.
Within two seasons, Matt Stafford will have eclipsed all of his career stats (excluding completion percentage, which looks like it will continue to improve). Does anyone here think that in the next season or two that Matt Stafford is already a hall of fame caliber player? You can make the same case that Stafford was the only thing keeping the Lions competitive, had one good wide receiver (Calvin and Bryant) and Stafford has never had a truly good offensive line (Cowboys have had the best for the past few seasons) or a running game. At the end of his career, people will question if Matt Stafford belongs in the hall of fame, and Stafford could easily hold the NFL record for most passing yards. Just being the quarterback of the Cowboys for more than five seasons doesn't make you worthy of the hall of fame. |

The question is, how does he stack up against his peers in the league right now? Is he the best QB right now? Is he even in the top 5? No, not really. They don't compare guys to previous players when considering them for the HOF, they compare them to the guys they played against. What sort of accomplishments does he have to make him stand out against guys like Brady, Manning, Rodgers and Brees? Championships? Nope. Efficiency? Nope. High TD-INT ratio? Nope. Wins? No. Come from behind victories? Not really. If he's not breaking records left and right while winning and winning the MVP/SB, then at this point in time he's not HOF.

He's now retired and will turn to broadcasting.

Well if he does get in, Philip Rivers has nothing to worry about.

HOF - no brainers Brady Peyton Manning Rodgers Brees HOF will get in with good numbers and post season success Big Ben Eli Manning Don't make it/Cut Off Tony Romo Phillip Rivers By my count that puts him 7th or 8th best in his era. Not good enough. If Romo gets in then Rivers needs to be in and I guess the cut off moves to Carson Palmer. |

Tony Romo ends his career as the Bernie Sanders of NFL quarterbacks...
In reality, Romo's HOF chances died when Garrett refused to play him against Cleveland last season. That single decision will go down as one of the most pivotal moments in Dallas Cowboys history. |

DONOVAN MCNABB was better and has a better shot then Romo at the Hall of Fame. They played along the same timeframe and division.

No, but a very good qb. If he played a few more years he could have gotten close.
