Default Does anyone follow Beckett price guides anymore?

Didn’t know if anyone still checks prices on these or just refers to past EBay sales?

If you go to a card show you can still find quite a few that do or a mom/pop shop. If you ask the internet. Negative.

Default Beckett

If there aren't any recent completed auctions to refer to then I'll use Beckett as a starting point for a general value of a card.

But for current cards, it's probably better to do your own eBay research.

I've gotten into some spats trying to explain to people it's simply a gauge for some but not all documented sales.

But you're right unless there is hot demand, good luck getting Beckett full value lol..

Kinda pointless nowadays since you can usually find actual sales on ebay. That said I hope they continue with price guides because it brings nostalgia.

I miss the old Becketts that were mostly color, with lots of articles to read.

The Vintage Collector is the only one left like that. I wish they'd just cut the other sports down to quarterly so they could afford to produce them like that. The price guides are dated when they come out anyways, why not?

Sure. Mostly as a checklist and for odds + other information from the annual issue. Most of it is online but I prefer the book because sometimes Ill just thumb through it during some down time.

The low column prices can give a rough estimate, especially for a guy like Jordan and lower end inserts from the 90s. Some prices it seems havent been updated in a decade. Ebay and CoMc can give a more definite and current price level in the end.

Beckett hasn't been relevant as a price guide for a long time.

I know some seem high, but also some older cards look like they haven’t been updated higher.

Only those that still use sun dials, listen to 8-Tracks, and still watch movies on Super-8 and B&W TV's.

Apparently I saved a couple and had in a book/magazine case at my parents home until recently.. Didn't know if they're worth anything but I got them or else they were going in the "trash" as my mom put it

They not worth much $$, but a lot of fun to look back through! Some of the prices make you want a time machine.

Yes, I still use Beckett, but as reference only, and I also subscribed to their online Price Guide and service, mostly for checklist and Organize features.

I know the prices aren't relevant anymore, but here in Asia, Beckett Price Guide still one of the "guide" on many transactions.

Even most of LCS in the States still use Beckett BV on their Price Tags if I correctly remember. I even put High BV on my ebay listings on Best Offers...at least got to start from somewhere.....

Truth to be told, even though the Price Guide aren't that relevant anymore, the BGS slabbing is pretty much the "standard" now alongside with PSA of course. Now that Beckett already offers Authentication Service, pretty much they are not going anywhere sometime soon.....

Just my 2 cents....

It was nice to use when trading on that site. did a lot of trades that had 1-200 cards on each side. Made it easy to be fair by going by bv.

Becketts are still a great resource as a set reference, as well as a good gauge of the relative prices of a card within a set.

It's acts as a good guide to what cards can be pulled out of packs for a specific set.

Plus up arrows are good for the collecting ego.

The only time I see someone use a Beckett price guide, is the when the price listed within is higher than recent eBay sales.

The print is too small, and the valuation is too large!

The relevance of a "guide" which is misguided are just pie in the sky dreams.

If Beckett was smart they'd get rid of the monthly price guides, and focus on making a great editorial magazine discussing historical precedent of actual sales and having fantastic articles that are interesting to read.

Wizard Magazine for the comic book industry went through ceasing publication because they offered irrelevant information. Beckett is pretty much in that same boat
