Default How come High Voltage 500 cards rarely pop up?

That's a fairly sizable print run of 500 and these only show up once in a blue moon. Even the pop reports on Beckett and PSA are pretty bare. Is there just a bunch of this stuff still sitting around in unopened wax?

I found a ray Allen this week... Checked pop reports on Beckett... Half the players in the set have never had one single card graded! Wild

I've seen 3 Olajuwon's on ebay in the past 6 months. Not sure about the other players, but for a 20 year old card, I think 3 times in 6 months isn't too rare. Still salty I was outbid on all 3 - cheapest went for about $85 shipped :'(

A lot of 90's inserts are showing up less and less that you should be widely available. I think collectors/investors are keep or banking on them down the road.

I have a Kobe, which I have in PC since 2015. That said, I think I've seen 2-3 more on eBay since then. I used to have an Iverson too, guess where that was found? In a $3 grab bag a dealer set out on his table where it was the outside facing card to "entice" you to buy. That was in 2012 I believe. I was the only one looking the grab bags. You never know! Obviously he made that grab bag at least 10-15 years prior. Digging at its best!

Like we were discussing the other day.......these cards are stupid rare considering the print run. I still need a Hill but they flat out never come up for sale.

There hasn't been a single Hardaway on eBay in over a year. Luckily I got a copy from a BO member. Maybe they lied about the print lol

I'm sitting on my AI PSA 9 thanks to Gslayton. I wonder if people just didn't think much of them since they were Hoops and /500? Maybe they got buried away with commons and other fairly worthless inserts.

Its just a perception game. a /500 insert is still only limited to 500 copies whether they show up or not. It is not rarer than say a /50 insert just because it doesnt show up for sale as much.

You'd expect an /500 to show up more frequently than an /50 card, but that doesn't seem to be the case with these. I think overall, numbered inserts from the 90's just don't pop up as much, with people holding onto them. Maybe if prices rose, more sellers would emerge. Who knows.

Normally I'd agree, but I think you're wrong in this case. Something seems to be off when you compare the pop reports to other similar cards/sets. I was lucky enough to get the Michael Jordan serial #500/500 from a guy who had it in a binder for 15 years. When I checked the pop report I couldn't believe it as I think maybe only like 40 had been graded or maybe even less.

Thats exactly why I said it was a perception game. For the most part 90s inserts are either stashed in collections or simply sitting in boxes that either go unknown or of people that just quit collecting and put their stuff away. I mean 97 inserts have had 20 yrs to sink into closets. So when you compare it to a recent insert of limited quantity is not a real comparison.

True, and you're talking about a set with cards that maybe go for a few hundred bucks, depending on the player (obv. more for Jordan). A few hundred is nice, but not a ton of incentive to go closet diving. At the time these weren't worth much, so likely stashed away God knows where.

Yes but compared to other cards from the same time frame they feel more scarce and we're trying to figure out why. The 96 credentials /499 of Hardaway has popped up 5 times in the last year at least, for example. I don't think it's just a coincidence. This set in particular seems different than most others.

Facebook. Nothing is making it to eBay anymore!

I sold a BGS 9 Voltage /500 MJ a few weeks ago..

Still have another BGS 9 Voltage /500 MJ with 10.9.9.9 subs graded 8-10 years ago.. it would probably grade BGS 11 today..lmao

You can find them, I know someone working on the set, he's not far off at all..

Which player are you after? I must of had 10 MJ's over the years...

As for comparing graded cards to their population, I wonder is lower end sets' rate inserts get graded less often than higher end? I could be wrong. Look at the slam bams /100 for instance. Pop on those is super super low.
