Default When You Meet Your Fav Player Ever

Will update with more photos and background story after I get home, but had chance to hang with Jim a bit today before the Saints game and chat. Great experience. Coolest dude on the PLANET.

I got to meet Steve Garvey twice....I was a blithering idiot the first time (at the 1991 National) and then I got to meet him again about a year later and he actually remembered me! I was both stoked and embarrassed lol

Congrats

That's pretty cool! I've never seen that video with Jim Rome. I never really cared for his show, he's hard to listen to.

After a crappy game and some crappier weather driving home, I finally got chance to catch up here. First, thank you everyone for the comments.....I genuinely appreciate them all.

Ok....the story (if anyone cares). So, Jim and I have been corresponding via Twitter for a couple of years now after I sent him a BUNCH of old Saints games I had (after converting from VHS to DVD). Lately, we’ve had a little back and forth related to card collecting. Y’all know I’m an Everett “completist”. Well, years ago (after going a couple of years without finding ANYTHING I didn’t have) I started wondering how many “doubles” I had sitting in boxes. Turned out, I had about 80% towards a SECOND Everett PC. Well, I told Jim about it and asked if he’d be interested in it for himself or maybe his kids as it did a good job ofchronologically documenting his career. He said he would be. I’d already planned on going to this weekend’s game and asked if he’d be there. He said he had a luncheon to attend there so we set up a time where I could meet with him beforehand. We met up, I gave him my “backup PC” and we talked for a good 15-20 min about his career, collecting, life, etc. He even introduced me to his daughter (who came with him).

I’d met him a couple of times before at appearances but never something set up 1 on 1. I just thought it was extremely cool of him to do that. He was just SO “genuine” and seemed sincerely interested about the stuff we chatted about. Very cool and regular “dude”. He was gracious enough to sign 5 items for me and when I thanked him via Twitter, he was nice enough to post this in response:

Here are the items he signed for me:

1995 Game Issue

1994 M&N Throwback

24k Chrome Gold / Rams 24k Prototype / Pewter

Great story to go with it. I am sure he appreciated your generosity.

Love those rare helmets too! Super hard to find.

What an amazing story. I get a chuckle out of people who act as if being happy to meet your favorite player is something lame.

I think the fact that you gave him such a huge collection is absolutely amazing. I would love to know what he plans on doing with it.

Thanks for sharing your awesome experience.

BTW, those items he signed are FANTASTIC!

I think what's really great is that a fan did something for their favorite player, without expecting anything in return. That's a very cool story.

Thanks again guys for the compliments. Sincerely.

Thought I’d use this opportunity to show off what is now my favorite pair of auto’d minis.

Dual Saints pewter minis, featuring my two favorite players.

I bought the unsigned helmets (as a pair) somewhere around 2007 (I have yet to ever see another one) and held onto them both aspiring to get them signed by Everett and Brees. Was able to meet Brees 3 years ago (with psa/dna onsite) and Everett on Sunday (will psa/dna that one at next opportunity).

Am also pretty stoked about having this pair as well.....

Effin' smokes! What a cool story and thanks for sharing. You run in high circles.

To whoever posted that interview link: Thanks. It was fun to see Jim Rome cry like a little girl. Rome is the biggest wanker ever.
