Funko Pop..completely new to this

I have no clue about values, releases, exclusives, etc... Brand new to this world.

I collect tons of baseball memorabilia and keep up with those values pretty well.

But I saw that soonish they're going to be releasing Rick and Morty "toxic" versions and they look pretty cool. Was wondering how to go about getting these, expected release, etc. I see its a Target exclusive. Is there a place to preorder or only go in stores?

I'm relatively new to this as well (haven't jumped into the deep end quite yet, but I have started picking up some ones I like here and there). My top 3 resources you should keep an eye on are:

-Pop thread in this section

-r/funkopop subreddit

-poppriceguide.com

Lots of info and deals with the first two, and the PPG is the best price guide for pops out there. Helps you get an idea what you should expect to pay for a certain figure, and it works as a checklist of sorts pretty well too

Is there any issues with fakes out there? I'm assuming I should always buy unopened boxes but didn't know if you still needed to worry or not.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if fakes are really an issue (though I don't think so for the most part), but boxes are generally never sealed

Yes, fakes can be an issue. If buying on ebay, don't buy anything from China. Also, real pops should have Funko LLC on the feet. Fakes have Made in China.

To answer your specific questions...

Your best bet as to when they're going to be released is follow someone like Funkofinderz on social media, join some of the big groups or join the funko fanatics forum. There's really no such thing as a release date for Funko stuff. Funko will say "Coming this winter!" when it's fall and it'll hit stores in like a week lol No place to really preorder, just in store with Target stuff (Usually).

People tend to hawk the chain stores and buy out all the exclusives so you have to be a little lucky/persistent when you know they're starting to come out. Otherwise you'll have to wait for a random restock and be lucky.
