Default Could YOU fix the Cleveland Browns in 2018 and beyond?

Fun exercise! (or Dante's eight level of hell?)

The team is projected to have a league-leading $117 million in cap space. What do you do to turn this team around? Go for broke and try to win the Super Bowl next season or try to lay the groundwork for a dynasty?

Cleveland Browns roster

UFA - RB - Isaiah Crowell
UFA - DE - Lavar Edwards
UFA - G - Marcus Martin
RFA - ILB - Josh Keyes
RFA - SS - Derron Smith
RFA - DE - Jamie Meder
RFA - T - Tyler Loos
ERFA - WR - Josh Gordon
ERFA - WR - Rashard Higgins
ERFA - G - Chris Barker
ERFA - TE - Matt Lengel
ERFA - CB - CJ Smith
ERFA - OLB - Jeremy Cash
ERFA - QB - Kevin Hogan
ERFA - FB - Dan Vitale
ERFA - C - Austin Reiter
ERFA - ILB - BJ Bello
ERFA - S - Kai Nacua
ERFA - CB - Reggie Porter

Draft Picks:
Round 1, Pick 1
Round 1, Pick 4
Round 2, Pick 33
Round 2, Pick 36
Round 2, Pick 64
Round 3, Pick 65
Round 4, Pick 103
Round 4, Pick 126
Round 5, Pick 140
Round 6, Pick 179
Round 7, Pick 220

Really hoping to hear from some of our Cleveland and AFC North members because I am probably going to be following the Browns almost as closely as the Cowboys for the next season or two. They've got such an incredibly unique opportunity to completely rebuild a team and it's got me fascinated to see how it plays out.

Yes

QB and Fitzpatrick.

There is talent all over the place outside of QB and a top flight DB.

Oh and keep Gordon clean. That’s big.

Oh and my actual answer?

Cousins - highest paid player in the league
Barkley
Fitzpatrick
2nd - best WR available
2nd - best OT available
2nd - best player available

And I still have like 9 picks

Cousins/Duke/Barkley/Gordon/Coleman/Njoku
Garrett/Shelton/Ogbah/Collins/Kirksey/McCoutry/Fitzpatrick/Peppers

Plus a ton of picks and more space?

8 wins in the first year

I've met John Dorsey a few times and he is a very knowledgable football guy. I am interested to see what happens in Cleveland the next few years. He has done a great job in GB and KC with personnel decisions he's been involved in. It can't get any worse than right now, obviously, so tempered expectations would probably be best for year 1. I do think they'll look totally different in 2019 and be quite competitive.

I don't think I could turn it around though, no haha.

I'm actually pretty excited for the Browns. I can't wait to see the hype when they finally make it to a Super Bowl. And I think that these next two years offer a pretty unprecedented opportunity to dramatically turn a franchise around.

I may need to apply for "dual fanship." I mean, there's never really been a better time to buy-in to a team than now.

They had some good picks in this years draft but couldn't win a game. I wouldn't take a QB #1. Id trade that pick for more picks. Not necessarily this year because you can only handle so many rookies and it would probably come back to bite them when it comes time to re-sign guys. Take a couple first round picks in the future and a couple 2nd's. I'd build up a strong defense and offensive line first. With their plethora of picks and salary cap space there's no excuse why they shouldn't be able to field a competitive team.

The key is to build strong offensive and defensive lines.....doesn't make a difference how good your skill players are if your o-line and d-line suck.

1st thing you need to do is move them to a new city. Seems to be the only way to make them winners. Worked the last time

Thomas/Bitonio/Tretter/Zeitler/2nd Round Pick
Garrett/Shelton/Ogbah/Chubb

Works for me

Browns fans will literally burn the stadium to the ground, literally, if they don’t take a QB

Kizer sucks out loud. Johnny wins 5 games this year.

Any veteran is a one year gap

You don’t have to take a QB at 1 but you’re taking Mayfield or Allen then with the Houston pick

Burning River Pale Ale would suck under another name.

Good QB, Fitzpatrick, some OL help at right tackle would take them quite far to around 4-5 wins.

From there, weeding out the overrated players, coaching staff overhaul and trading for PFF’s 59th best CB Dre Kirkpatrick and his 5 year, $52m contract from the Bengals would help them a lot too

I know it's been super rough. But the Cavs have shown all it takes is 1 right pick and the entire landscape can turn around.

Unfortunately for the Browns, they've been given a top pick just about year in and year out and have yet to get it right.

Just as long as Josh Allen doesn't have to play in Cleveland, I will be happy. To answer the OP, Holmgren couldn't do it, Dorsey won't be able to do it, Sonny couldn't do it, nobody can. They are going to bring back Hue 1 for 32 Jackson for crying out loud.

Holmgren could have done it if he wasn’t the laziest fat a** on the planet.

He was a paycheck collector. Nothing more. Straight bum.

Which is Haslams fault for being so stupid.

Who is Sonny?

The Browns are in a very interesting position. Fans may have something to look forward too and at the very least they have a chance.

They're better off (long term) than some teams who made the playoffs and/or just missed the playoffs.
