Default Remember: This is a HOBBY

Just a friendly reminder to all those around BO, and otherwise, that this is still just a HOBBY. Yes, there is money to be made, and we can all scratch each others back. However, let's remember to have fun, and not let petty BS get in the way of the enjoyment.

Sorry, but I just continue to notice negative undertones around here sometimes with the members of BO, and I just don't get it. There's enough drama in the world...

Happy Collecting! Rant over.

It is a hobby to some, a business to others.

to Blowout, it is not a hobby...

Business, centered around a Hobby... No different than pro baseball players... In the end, still a game, and that's how it should be played. Tired of crabby jerks on here just looking to be angry all the time. The most successful "businesses" provide stellar experiences for their customers. You aren't driving a cab.... Tact and professionalism, many could learn a lesson or two on around here.

"To BO it's not a hobby".... Explain? You do cards for a living? You work for Topps or Panini? Beckett?

THIS IS A HOBBY, and BO was founded on the premise of bringing hobbyist together. Not an excuse to be a jerk.

It's not a hobby for most anymore. When I was a kid I could trade my buddy a 1968 Seaver rookie for a 1968 Orlando Cepeda because he liked the Mets and I liked the Cardinals. THAT'S a hobby. This is a business, a BIG business and will remain so forever.

Huh? Blowout is a website that sells wax and supplies. They are a business. The Blowout Forum is something else but without the BUSINESS of Blowout, these forums wouldn’t exist.

It's not just a hobby. Not for me and not for thousands of people on this forum or EBay.

It is a Hobby. A Hobby turned into big business. I agree with you people should have a business model of customer service, fast service, friendly service. I assure the majority of people selling cards do it as a secondary income or to supplement their hobby, and have no idea about customer first. I've worked in retail for over 20 years and owned my own business even longer. The customer is always right period. Take care of the customer period. Treat the customer like you want to be treated period. These practices are lost in online shopping and selling because there is no personal interaction. If everyone treated the people online like they treated the people they dealt with in person we'd never read these kind of threads.

If I'm reading the meaning of the Op's post properly, I think he is putting less emphasis on whether or not this is a hobby or business, and more emphasis on the fact that he's sick of the middle school / keyboard warrior drama that happens. Am I right?

Examples? They can be nameless. I’m just trying to understand what in the world your rant is about.

The desire to be snarky and/or get the upper hand is too compelling to say no to & just ignore / be kind. I can understand all that - it is just the human condition, but acting upon it of course is a different ball of wax. When you are not face to face with someone, it is easy to let'er rip.

The thing I don't fully understand is why so many on the internet (like youtube comments for example) feel the need to rip apart others for zero reasons at all.

I think senses of humor are difficult to translate through a keyboard as well so a lot of the so called pessimism and negativity can just be chalked up as sarcasm. Some people just have thin skin and take every word typed on an online message board seriously.

Maybe we just need a BO “safe word” that people can use to end the piling on that inevitably happens after saying something foolish.

I propose the safe word be “FURIOUS”

It can certainly still be a hobby, if you let it be. I still like putting various cards of the Rams and Dodgers in the albums I keep just for that. They are some of the least valuable of all of the cards I have that I store that way, but still among the most enjoyable for me to flip through once in a while.

Valid point. I am rarely serious on here anymore because intellectual discussions are so few and far between. I'll admit it's fun to pile on the idiots on this forum. Believe me there are a lot of them. But most of the time it's all in good fun and not meaning any harm.

On the business side of this hobby my approach it totally different. I treat legitimate buyers as I would want to be treated. Pay me right away and I'll ship within a day. I'll package your items securely and you'll never have to wonder, has this package gone out yet? I love this hobby AND this business. It gets my blood pumping. No bs.
