Default New York Giants Fan Thread

Since there are a number of Giants fans on here I thought it might be nice to have a thread for us to talk about our favorite team and what impact the past season has had on collecting.

I would like to also note that if you are NOT a Giants fan and do NOT collect Giants cards pleae don't be a dick and come in here and cause trouble. Show us some respect and we will do the same when you start a thread about your favorite team.

One thing I have noticed is that Giants cards in general have dropped in price on ebay in the last few weeks. During the first 1/2 of the season Hakeem Nicks cards were going for premium price. Last night I bought a Hakeem Nicks 2010 Topps Magic AUTO for 9.99. Nicks for $10? Unheard of!

I am not a giants fan. (first and formost)

But i had thought about this, Have Elis Cards taken a hit? Ususaly after a loss like that to the eagles, and then getting blown out by the packers theyd dip. I dont honestly know what they went for before.

HUGE Giants fan right here and I am disappointed that they brought back Coughlin. If you look at his recored in Novemember and December you will see that it is less than .500 while in September and October it is a lot higher. I feel like something needs to change because they have the talent. Nicks and Smith getting hurt didn't help either.

Honestly, although his injury and the Giants losses may have hurt his card values a little, I don't think that is the main cause.

The reason his cards peaked and are again dropping is more due to the fact that he is a WR...WR cards fluctuate more than RB/QB I believe, and seem to be less likely to hold value over the course of time. Unless you are a super-star, HOF WR like Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Cris Carter, and maybe Andre Johnson.

To put a positive spin on the terrible december the Giants had, this will provide a great buying opportunity to pick up cards at great prices like that Nicks. Good pick up! I just wish there were more cards of Giants in sets. Seems like you can only find cards of Eli, Jacobs(overrated can't stand him), and one of the receivers. I understand the lack of rookies since the Giants haven't had a high pick since Eli and they rarely pick flashy players in the first round (linemen have been the norm), but would love to see more veteran and retired players in new products.

All I know is I bought elis 04 leaf limited patch auto rc in 06 for CHEAP... and I sold it the week after the superbowl they won and quadrupled my money

looks like I sold it at the right time

Nowadays I'm a Ramses Barden fan, he went to cal poly which is 10 minutes from my house. I really hope he heals his broken foot quickly so he can prove himself in training camp...

Good luck next year guys, I think this year was kinda a fluke with your division....

Some good comments her about prices being relative to the Giants winning or losing.

It seems to me that the prices on Giants stuff are lower when they are WINING.

Yeah sounds crazy, but here is why:

Lately there have been a lot of good Giants autos on ebay, far more than in the off season. While the Giants were looking good this season there were tons of good cards on ebay and the prices were great, because there was so much stuff available. I mananged to buy all 3 of the Giants Material Monkiers cards from the Limited set this year--Phil Simms, Michael Strahan, and Tiki Barber for less than $75 combined. Sometimes it seems a lot of Giants stuff gets set aside by sellers until they seem to be winning.

I hope they break that tradition and draft a runningback this time around. One WITH HANDS! Jacobs and Bradshaw drop the ball way too much. The Giants need to have someone run the ball who will hold onto it.

No sense in drafting a running back early this year, although jacobs and bradshaw had their fair share of fumbles this season they still got the job done, the main turn over problem was eli, but at $20 million a year they obviously aren't going to replace him even though he sucks and the only reason the drafted him is b/c of his last name...anyways in terms of draft they need an OL and a LB...the OL was banged up all year especially b/c guys like o'hara are getting old, definitely need a big time lineman and a big name LB would be nice too

I am very disapointed that they kept coughlin, but even more disapointed that they kept gilbride. I would like to see a revamped special teams above all else. (get that dodge kid out of here) The prices are definately coming way down on some good Giants guys, however that is partially because there weren't any good Giants rookies this year. I believe that some of the most recent topps products didn't even have 1 Giants rookie in them. Let's hope they are smart enough to use their 1st round pick on a linebacker for once, or worse case scenario an offensive lineman. (since they were plagued by injuries at that position this year) And for gods sack, jacobs and bradshaw, take lessons from tiki on how to stop fumbling. And Eli, head down to Yankees spring training and get one of the kids there to teach you how to slide feet first.

I'm a Giants fan. I'm still pissed about the December we had but I guess we'll have to rebound next year. I enjoy collecting them (especially Hakeem Nicks.) The only thing is is that other than him, Eli, and Jacobs (like someone said before) are the only players that you could actually get a decent collection out of. Why not throw in more Bradshaw to sets?? Hopefully I'll be able to pick up some cards for cheap prices now. It was a bad December and we missed the playoffs, but at least we left on a sort of high note against the Redskins. Now back to cards. The Giants haven't had many rookies recently other than Nicks, Smith, and Bradshaw that are good for collecting. They've been sticking to defensive players and lineman in the early rounds. I'm a huge fan of Terrell Thomas, he's my favorite Giant actually, but I can't find any autos of him other than rookie ones.

Hey guys this year was very poor for Giants rookie stuff, but last year (2009) was good. Andre Brown, Rhett Bomar, Hakeem Nicks, Ramses Barden all were prominantly featured in just about every set released.

the only downfall of the Nicks/Smith injuries is it is driving the prices up on Mario Manningham's stuff, making it harder for me to up my collection (which when I get scans updated, is getting much bigger).... but there are some good young defensive players worth collecting, and one, Kenny Phillips, is pretty cheap still... I just wish there was more stuff from Jon Goff other than the UD Auto from his rookie year... I really like him at MLB

I was lucky enough to pull an 09 NT Barden logo shield 1/1 last year. It wasn't until this year that I started building more on my Giants PC through eBay.

Made an offer on an Eli 2010 TTT white whale which was listed at $300. Guy accepted for $180. I know I still probably over paid but the card was sweet. I was just surprised he accepted.

The main problem the Giants have to address is special teams. People need to realize we still won 10 games. They have plenty of talent on both sides of the football. Yes Eli's interceptions were up but I would say about half of them were not totally his fault. If you watch all the Giants games you will know what I am talking about (a lot of his WR's like to drop and tip the ball to make it easier for the DB to interept the pass). Eli's cards haven't really dipped much and Nicks cards went up in the beginning of the season after the first game and have been pretty steady every since.

Totally agree. I was trying to pick up some Manningham's recently and I felt like they were all higher then usual. Plus he had some pretty big games at the end there so I feel like that added to it.

I for one hope the Giants part ways with Kevin Gilbride. It's not that I don't think he did a good job, it's that somewher the link between head coach--offensive coordinator--quarterback is not what it needs to be to get the job done. Eli isn't going anywhere and Coughlin gets at least another year, so Gilbride is the only movable part of the equation.

Yeah special tems is a problem, especially when it comes ot returning the football. I hope the Giants focus on getting a better return man for the next season.

Not just return men. Dodge needs to step up and give us a reason why we drafted him and just have better coverage on special teams. If our special teams improves and we limit our turnovers the Giants should be an elite football team next year

Agreed.

I think the Giants need to focus on an alternative to Dodge and limiting the turnovers. I think Eli is a part of the problem. I think I saw all but two or three regular season games this year and there were a lot of interceptins that i saw coming. There were a number of plays that i actually said "that's getting picked", as the ball left Eli's hand. He made a lot of mistakes a QB of his experience should not make.

True but he also made a lot of nice plays. Besides Brady everyone is throwing a lot of picks this year. I hate when fans just always put all the blame on Eli. I think he can be great but occassionally he does make the stupid throw. I think he is smart enough to correct it and he will become an elite QB. People like "Stats" and in every statistical category the giant are in the top of the league except turnovers. Eli will figure a way to limit the turnovers and everyone will jump back on the Giants bandwagon.

Ps. Could this be the curse of Plaxico? Ever since he shot himself the franchise has gone down hill. No playoff appearances and the year he shot himself we got knocked out by the eagles. My advice is to sign him when he gets out of jail if he looks like he wants to change his life around.

I agree 100%. I'm not knocking that the Giants aren't flashy in the draft (well maybe a little). I think they do a good job overall. I think they could do better in free agency and trading. The Giants have a set plan when it comes to acquiring personnel and they stick to it. They don't listen to talk radio or crazed fans like some other teams appear to do. I like that they are a conservative, sound, well run franchise that will always put a good team on the field. Do I wish they would win more, of course, but I look at a lot of other fans out there that bleed for a team that they know has no chance and I realize it aint so bad being a Giants fan. Sorry for the rant.
