Default Ichiro finalizing 1 yr deal with mariners!

I’ve been waiting for Ichiro to sign with ANY team. I just heard news he will sign with the Mariners! Welcome back home, Ichiro!

Really happy for him!
But at the same time, going back to the Mariners might mean that this is his final year in the US.

Now he is back with his old pal Dee Gordon

Probably his last year. Happy to see him go out with Seattle though.

I'll be honest, I love when a player goes "home" to finish out their career. Ichiro retiring as a Mariner is just right, and feels good.

I hope he announces his final season soon so he can have a well deserved farewell tour, like Jeter/Mariano/Papi and the likes had.

This is definitely his last season, and probably done largely to boost ticket sales/publicity/tv viewers/etc., but great news nonetheless. If only he wasn't too stubborn to admit that this is his last year so he can get the Mariano/Jeter like farewell tour he deserves.

So this isn't just to retire with the team, like he's actually going to see some playing time?

He should get some playing time, though I presume he will be coming off bench most of the time.
It's not like one of those 1 day contract such as with Matui - Yankees had just to honor the player for retirement.
It's an actual 1 year deal for Ichiro - Mariners.

I believe so. It’s not like the Mariners OF bench is anything worth talking about. Haha.

Another year of Ichiro playing means another year of me buying Ichiro cards.
Oh my wallet

I hope this also means Topps can get him to sign some of the outstanding redemptions soon!

Ichiro reports that he has one more physical to complete before the deal is final. He is currently in Seattle right now.

I hope he announces this is his final year so he can do a tour all year long, he deserves that. I also hope he goes back to Japan to play for Orix Blue Wave for a couple of years! Hopefully he will get an at bat against Ohtani too.

That's awesome and where he belongs to end his career. Hopefully he hit's a HR off Otani in his last at-bat.
