Default Bryce harper 2012 topps heritage red auto rc /10

I bought 2 boxes straight from topps.com back in 2012. I decided to open one (i have 1 sealed box remaining) with my 7 year old last summer. Only reason i opened it was because he just would not stop asking. So i let him open it, extremely careful of course. And to my surprise he pulled the red harper auto. It was such an exciting moment. I was very happy i got to share it with my son. Here is a picture of the card. I'm trying to decide if i should get this thing graded and if it should be with bgs or psa. I'd like to know your take on this. What company should i send it to for grading? What grade do you think the card will receive? What grade do you think the auto will receive? Should i even get it graded? I plan on keeping the card long term as it holds sentimental value to me. I know it's a bit risky but i also feel there could be tremendous long term potential. I would really appreciate everyone's input. Thanks.Attachment 410263

Wow. I'm partial to PSA on heritage, but killer card either way.

That is absolutely stunning...I'd also grade with psa, the red label would pop with the red ink and jersey. Looks like there might be a tiny bit of whiting on the lower corners/edge, but from what I can tell it might still be a 9 which is well worth slabbing. Very clean auto as well, wow...

Grad or not.....please do NOT sell it unless you absolutely have to. You will regret it, guaranteed.

Wow great card and congratulations! That is great you got to share that with your son. I wouldn't grade the card unless I had plans to sell it someday.

Definitely grade if Mint or better. Can never see much with just pics, but bottom left corner looks a bit touched. I'd go BGS just for that since Auto seems strong enough and I think that's enough for PSA to not give it a gem.

Such an awesome card. Easily $10k plus in my opinion. I would grade it for sure. With the auto as nice as it is, if you do grade with psa, I would have them grade the auto also.

Major congrats on the Lotto pull and getting to share that with your son.

If there is any question about a corner, you should not have it graded by PSA, as it will get a 9 at best.

If you don’t know from my prior posts, I hate PSA labels and holders for most cards. I definitely have a personal BGS bias. But I also recognize that a lot of collectors right now have the opposite bias. The shifting sentiments of the hobby are ephemeral, and who knows what the prevailing taste will be 10+ years from now (will probably be in favor of a company that doesn’t even exist yet).

But all that aside, if you get it actually graded, you want it to get a gem grade if possible, and if there is a corner issue, you will almost certainly get a 9 from PSA. With a big centering issue, you’d likely be better off going PSA instead of BGS. But with the auto in play and a potential corner issue, your better odds are with BGS.

If you don’t plan on selling it anytime soon and just want it better protected and easier to handle/display, consider just having it slabbed without grading by whichever company has the holder that would be most visually appealing for that card to you and your son.

The white on the lower left corner probably dooms it to 8-8.5, but that's one of those cards where the grade isn't so terribly important. Not like a 9.5 is $10K and 8.5 is $250.

It's amazing you pulled it, though. With my luck, I'd have gotten a scrubby scrub and the Harper would still be sealed in the other set.

Good point here, which also gives more practical, long-term leeway to just have it slabbed without grading for enhanced protection and overall visual presentation.

I would sell it and put the $ into a 529 college saving account for your son. Great pull!

Great card OP. I would say grade via PSA. Even if its an 8, just for safe protection.

As for the Value, I would personally say if it can be a $10k+ card, depending on how you are financially I would honestly say if you can get $12K or $15k+ sell it and put that money into a college fund of some sort now for the kid. Would have 10 years to add to it, or "Invest" it.

But regardless, great hit.

I say PSA because it will probably grade a Mint 9. Sending to BGS might bring the dreaded 8.5 which doesn't look as nice as a PSA 9. Heritage seems to always look nicer in PSA holders as well. Congrats!

Such a beastly card, iconic generationally super relevant dream- type card.

Congrats to you and the boy for such a massive hit.
Id go PSA min grade 9 and if it doesn't get it, simply a one touch in the safe deposit box.
At Harper's age and career trajectory and the desirability/rarity of this issue theres no telling what this could be worth in 10 years.

I wouldn't bother with an auto grade (personal preference, I never do) but would certainly go with PSA. My guess is an 8 or an 8.5 based on the white showing on the bottom corners. (This is based on a personal anecdote on an ungraded version--looked identical, came back an 8, still loved it!)

The reason I wouldn't do a min-grade is because this card will be easier to sell graded than raw if it ever comes to it. And 20 years down the road, sure, a 10 will outsell an 8, but there are only 10 produced, the demand will always outweigh the supply on this, you've got a goldmine in your hands.

Congrats on the huge pull for you and your son, must've been an incredible feeling!

If sold in the future, I think buyers would be leery in this example. I think this card needs a grade regardless of the grade. We're also not talking about a PSA 6 either. Will still grade Nr Mint/Mint at the lowest, possibly Mint.
