Smile SGC Gold Labels

Came across this searching for SGC resale values for newer cards. Interesting that SGC 100s now have a gold bordered flip. Very interested to see what some of the current SGC 100 auctions end up going for.

They really need to come up with an SGC 102 pristinier grade to compete with BGS and PSA for modern cards.

I think that is a great idea that they did something to distinguish the 10s, but I think they could have done a much better job.

I mean, I salute them for at least trying.

If anything they need to clean up their label and ditch the dull green, and that gold is going nowhere. If they'd throw a hologram w/ QR code on the label so you could scan it, put in a 4-digit pin and add to your registry (or update it as being yours) it would add something unique for set collectors and vintage guys. Maybe change the color to blue with a gold hologram for the old dogs that still like SGC.

Maybe put the QR code on the back, and change the hologram color for the grade - gold for 98/100, silver for 96, blue for anything less, white for authentic, etc. No reason to make the entire label change color like BGS does with gold/silver/authentic, just change the hologram and have a clean label that doesn't look like you printed it on a wireless Epson in somebody's basement.

Pardon my amateur paint.net skills, but something like this would be a lot more attractive to me than their awful labels-

SGC needs to update their flips. Of the big 3 companies, theirs definitely look the cheapest. The flips look like they're on a big 1990s era printer sheet, and they tear them off.

I don't have a login for the net54 site. If you do can you paste the screenshot here? The links in the first post do not give any info on changes.

they are just links, and one of them is 404 now. yesterday when I viewed it, it appeared to be a design firms designs for the new flips and labels. pretty intuitive site with lots of pics and graphics but looks like it was taken down now.

https://ogkcreative.com/work/sgc/

here are some of the pics I was able to still find, but none of the labels. they looked much better than now, but still nothing like BGS/PSA still.

That link works now. Some good stuff brewing at SGC. I am excited. The new labels are different. I liked the green style before, but the font and printing of these look better. I am digging the graded card boxes. Looking forward to the CAARD system. Lord knows SGC needed a complete overhaul digitally.

Also, intrigued on the scanning as part of the grading. Could be competitive advantage for them, especially if they got patents so PSA can't mimic immediately if it succeeds.

Sgc is going to be dropping the 100 scale soon. Pristine 10s will be a sgc 10 with a gold label. Regular sgc gem mints will have the same color

Changes still on the way. No mention in this article of electronic grading, but the rest of the changes are mentioned. Question is, is it too late to actually make a push into the market? Will it improve resale values? Or will it just keep SGC competitive in the pre-war market it currently shares with PSA?

Did you notice they stated for sure they are using a 9.5 on the scale? Trying to market their 10 to be more prestigious than a PSA 10. PSA didn't have the balls (probably rightfully so) to add the 9.5 and piss off all the big registry whales.

They've been doing Pristine 100 and Gem Mint 98s for years, so not sure this is really a change as it sounds like in the article.

The part about being able to see grader notes later in the summer is interesting. Surprised they have the time to write notes explaining the grade.

SGC is pretty good about writing notes on cards that get submitted through them, and will even talk with you about them if you call them once you get your cards back. Of course, they don't nearly have the demand of people clamoring to get cards graded there, so they should have better service.

Just got home after spending a few days with SGC. I love those guys. They have some great ideas. They will be rolling out a 9.5 mint plus grade in the future.

SGC has always been my favorite grading company. When I sold my whole collection a few years ago it went to SGC to be graded first. (full disclosure they are customer of mine too)

I'm not too familiar with SGC and tried to find something on their site, but was unable to. Does SGC keep a database of the cards they grade, meaning, can I look up a SGC graded card using the serial number on the label? Similar to what BGS and PSA do.

Their current website does have a pop report and registry, but it is very clunky. I think it well be completely remodeled based on the reports.

that has been the case for a looooooong time. Doubtful it ever happens

SGC is top notch for vintage cards, but I just can't see SGC getting even close to PSA and BGS for modern

I am selling a lot of blue chip sgc cards for higher than bgs right now. I am seriously thinking of taking a lot of my modern bgs stuff to sgc and crossing them over. The biggest know on sgc is that there I not not enough product on the market to get concrete market data.
