Default Viceroy Cards is back!

Or at least, they're in the process of coming back. A new website is up at https://viceroy.cards/

I'm quivering with anticipation to see what Ryan has in store for us next!

I've not bought any of their products but I remember seeing some nice breaks. I just subscribed to their list to see what they have planned

Been 5 years.. damn.

Good deal. Personally I like that they are going the kickstarter path and wish more would go that route. However, much easier for sketch products than TV shows or movies.

I disagree. What is the recourse if you back a kickstarter and the product is never made?

Yes, that is a major potential negative and some kickstarters backfire.

Also why I said I personally like it. I've backed a number of kickstarter items and have yet to had someone not deliver. However, I'm usually backing more established companies rather than first timers.

Very cool that Viceroy is back -- I'm glad that they are taking steps to get their product out to a wider audience, that's awesome. . .

I think backing them on Kickstarter would be ok since they have produced sets before, but overall I've had a lot of failures on Kickstarter/Indiegogo/Pledgemusic to that point that I avoid them.

The last outstanding campaign I have has *finally* said they will be shipping soon -- although it is unclear what they are shipping, and we were supposed to receive what we ordered in early 2015.

Viceroy put out sketch card sets a few years back, each pack had a sketch card and a few insert cards. The inserts were very well thought out, and very different than most companies have. The sketch cards were drawn on 100 pt thickness cards, and the backs of the cards were printed with a letterpress.

I'm happy they are back. Not a fan of Kickstarter but at least I know they have put out very good stuff in the past so it gives me more confidence in them.

Nothing, absolutely nothing.

All the Kickstarter project person does is claim delay after delay after delay. It's pretty easy rip people off on Kickstarter. Couple of active "high level" sketchcard artists are guilty of this.

Disclaimer: This has nothing to do with Viceroy Cards, I can't wait to see their new product offering.

Hey Everyone!

Thanks for the kind words about our past releases. We're really looking forward to producing more sets and trying new things!

If anyone has any questions or suggestions, feel free to ask here and we'll answer as best we can.

As far as Kickstarter goes, I agree with the concerns a Kickstarter campaign can bring. The upcoming set will also be sold in a traditional manner via our new website for those who choose not to use Kickstarter. Everything available in pledge levels will be available at some point before release via the website, except for a few non-physical or one off rewards. If we decide to include stretch goals, anything added via a stretch goal will be included in the full release. I think most can agree that feeling like you missed out on something simply because it was part of a Kickstarter can be quite annoying. We're trying to utilize some of the benefits of a Kickstarter Campaign, while avoiding concerns that have troubled backers on other campaigns.

This would also be a good time to ask what you'd like to see in upcoming products.

Thanks again for all the support, even after our 5 year hibernation!

With the assumption you are staying away from things that would require a license (TV/Comics/Movies), I'd love to see things more based on history and/or folklore

King Arthur
Robin Hood
Ancient Greece
Ancient Rome
Folklore/Mythology

I'd love to see a literature based set, it could cover a number of the topics above.

While I'm sure Viceroy could come up with some excellent sets featuring Fairy Tales and Myths and Legends, Perna Studios have already been putting out consistantly high quality products for those themes over the past few years so it might be a good idea to look elsewhere for their initial release(s). No reason for two small, high quality companies to be competing for the same market

You must have been reading our minds. Our next sets after Hallowe'en 3 is "Creatures of Myths and Legends" for Spring 2019 and "Hallow-ink" for October 2019 and "Classic Fairy Tales 2" for 2020.

We have no plans to create any products matching what Perna Studios produce. They do an amazing job with their sets, and we're fans just like the rest of you!

The list above was created in 2012, so it still contains ideas before other sets were released.

I preface this comment by saying I have the utmost confidence that viceroy will deliver, and it will be on or close to schedule. I may even back that campaign if it's something I want.

In general though, i think of kickstarter like preorders on crack. You pay months or even years in advance for a product, and there is no recourse if the product never gets made. At least if I preorder from BO, and the product never gets made, I'll get my deposit back. I must prefer the Perna method of taking orders once the product is in hand, and shipping it out a couple weeks later.

I understand the necessity of kickstarter, but not for established companies. Now i dont know viceroys current situation and being out for 5 years might be the same as starting from scratch.
