Great news and would expect this will include the standard clause about increasing product lines.

Yes, but only if it’s the right competition.

Rovell about as good of a source as you can have, unless someone fed him misinformation

Wouldn't have to be Panini (though I think people crap on them for the sake of crapping on them quite a bit). Now there's no chance for anyone else for another 7 years

Unfortunately, people continuing to spend money on garbage products is what drives the lack of creativity from Topps. It’s not a competition problem. There isn’t enough true demand for baseball cards to drive legit competition.

The hobby needs discerning consumers instead of competition.

"Competition" is widely overrated.

I'd love to see Upper Deck come back. The late 2000s when Topps and UD were both making great products were awesome

Disagree.

Panini puts out quite a few baseball products that would be just as good as Topps products if they had logos.

And many of their mid-level basketball & football product lines are superior to any mid-level product lines Topps is releasing in baseball.

Topps does need more competition....

it wouldn't be the worst thing if Panini and Topps both made products in basketball, football, and baseball

Maybe they could be limited to 2 products each a month if they need to make that many 1 per month each would be perfect

I don't understand how you wouldn't want competition in this marketplace unless you were being paid directly by Topps.

I'm pretty sure the alternative to this would have been an exclusive with Panini. I don't believe a joint license was ever in the discussions, so that's why I perceive this as great news.

Brian Gray scared us all to death a few years ago when he guaranteed us that Panini was getting this license, so I'm just glad he was wrong.

That is exactly what MLB does NOT want.

In order to get the license, Topps is required to put out so many sets. When you get a bunch of junk sets you don't like, blame MLB and exclusive contracts, not Topps. They are just doing what is required.

Agreed. Upper Deck made some absolutely iconic cards for 20 years. It's a shame they're no longer involved. I'm glad they have a hockey license.
