Default Is this the holy grail of cut signature cards?

2008 Legendary Cuts Hall of Fame Class of 1936 - Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, and Christy Mathewson cut autographs all on one card. Name a better cut signature card than this. I'll wait...

Is that the card that some of the autos were fake/secretarial/clubhouse and they had to redo it?

Beautiful Card

There is another one of this released in 2001. I think it was Legendary Cuts but it has the same 5 in it.

Was this the card given to Kevin Demitros by Upper Deck after the fake auto scandal, or was this pack pulled?

Beat me to it. I thought I read a forum post about that on here.

Not the holy grail if it's fake

No booklet can ever be the "Holy Grail" of cut cards.

Booklets are "Franken-cards," freak shows from the PT Barnum school of oddities.

The booklet with the fake autos was the 2005 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts that had 4 autos of Cobb, Ruth, Wagner, and Johnson. The Ruth and the Walter Johnson autos were fake. I think Upper Deck used the same cut autos of Cobb and Wagner in this booklet as compensation to Kevin Demitros after a lawsuit. I don't think the "First Class" booklet was pack pulled.

Here is a picture of the 2005 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts booklet. Compare the Cobb and the Wagner cuts in both booklets.

I generally hate cut autographs, but that is one of the coolest cards I've ever seen. Great idea AND great execution! Wow.

Edit -- unless it's true that some of the auto's are not legit. Then I take back what I said about execution...

You are correct, this card was a custom made by Upper Deck as a correction of the famed fake auto card. Not all were fake, so those were reused.

No, the 2005 one pictured in post #11 was the partially fake one (the Ruth and W. Johnson autos were fake, the Cobb and Wagner autos were good). To replace the 2005 one, Upper Deck then made the 2008 one, apparently using the good Cobb and Wagner autos from the 2005 card plus additional autos of the other 3 players.

You are correct. Remember seeing it highlighted in Beckett and when it was pulled.

I can't bring myself to like the card. I'm glad they remade it without forgeries. However, as a card collector and an autograph collector I just think a card (even a foldout) is a terrible place to display autographs of this quality. These aren't Mike Trout or Kris Bryant autographs. There will never be a shortage of those. If I were to spend tens of thousands on Cobb, Ruth, Mathewson and Wagner autographs.. I'd very much prefer spending another couple thousand dollars on a attractive frame job with proper museum quality preservation.

Just like chopping up a Josh Gibson or Jackie Robinson bat. I just don't get it.

But hey, I guess I'm in the minority.

For baseball the only thing I could see being close would be a Joe Jackson, but I’d rather have this. I have or had all but Matty but that is so tough! The only thing better would be pics by each like the 2001 etc cuts.

This picture of fake Ruth cuts Operation Bullpen recovered is one of the big reasons I don't collect cuts, just entire documents...
