Default Does anyone still collect/build the original Fleer/SkyBox Autographics sets?

Does anyone still build these mega autograph sets (1996-97 - 2000-01 NBA seasons)? I have slowed down a lot lately after completing the first two regular sets (1996-97 and 1997-98), but am still building. Man I love and miss these sets.

The old thread has cooled down, so I guess that I will start a new one.

Oh yeah. People still love these. I badly need that blue ink Grant Hill. If you decide to sell it, i'm your huckleberry.

The two century marks are incredible.

I don't collect the set, but I do have three personal favourites in my PC:

Been a fan since the inaugural set in 96-97! Those were the days that you will be happy even with a common card from this set

Currently working on the 97-98 set

Nice cards Will. I have that Glenn Robinson too, but it is still a long way to go for me with that set.

Thank you. I have waited for a while to get the Grant Hill blue ink.

Definitely agree on the part about being happy even with pulling a common card from these sets. I still have that feeling when I bust a few of these older products a year ago or so and pulled some of these Autographics common's. I also bought a blue ink parallel of the first ever Autographics card that I pulled when the inaugural set was released, and paired them together.

Will you target the T-Mac and Sheed' as well and plan to add them to your 1997-98 set chase?

I might remember wrongly, but I seem to see one on auction sometime earlier this year. Wish you success on landing one either way.

Do you have the Tim Thomas? I like the story behind that one.

For a while I had a good portion of 97-98 maybe only 20-25 cards left. Then when I left the hobby my dumbass sold them all. Now that I'm back I'm slowly trying to put it back together. 97-98 is my absolute favorite year. I think probably because it's the first basketball auto I ever pulled.

Great to see the comments and pictures. jam92102, I remember you. Good to see you restarting to build the 1997-98 set.

Speaking of which, yes, I do have the unofficial/unstamped Tim Thomas rookie Autographics card.

Originally slated to be part of the 1997-98 set, Tim Thomas mistakenly thought that these cards were given to him by Fleer/SkyBox as a gift, and never returned these cards to the company. He instead gave these cards out to his family/friends, as well as fans with autograph requests back then. Needless to say, some of the copies found their way to the secondary market.

I wonder if there is any of the Century Marks version of this card existing...never saw one personally.

Liked these sets. I, unfortunately, pulled commons. Nevertheless, great cards.

There was a guy in person up here selling either the 96-97 or the 97-98 complete set at a show locally. Thing was beautiful.

Why unfortunate? That's the time/sets that even when you pull common's, you should feel great.
I myself pulled common's too. Enjoyed every bit of these moments.

How much did the set go for?

You can ask him on IG. lol (Seriously though, Tim Thomas indeed has an IG account.)

I myself was one of those fans asking for one of these through the mail back then. Tim Thomas sent it to my aunt's home, and she mailed it to me (I was still living in Hong Kong at that time). That card was ding'ed when mailed to my aunt, and I left it behind when immigrating to the US in 2001.

For many years, I had been looking to acquire one again, until a few years ago when I got one with a discolored autograph. Then I got an upgraded one (shown in my previous comment) last year.

And nice Iverson, Jocel. I am about 60 cards or so from completing the 1998-99 set, including a few big names.

Not all cards are in blue ink, but based on the amount acquired, that is incredible nonetheless.

Guess which card in your post attracts me most? The Loy Vaught card.
Many regular version copies (including mine) are not signed in full autograph, with every letter. I believe that such case only happens to the blue ink parallel.

Awesome stuff, I hate to even call them iconic because it's so glaringly obvious.

Don't have many aside from the couple I pulled way way back (sold the mccloud)...

and this one that I grabbed on ebay a few months back...

I’m still collecting the sets. I’m about 10-15 cards away from completing the 96-97 and 98-99 sets. Also working on the 99-00 and 97-98 sets, but just started those.

Barry- I have a lot of doubles from the 98-99 set. Pm me if you want to buy and we can try to work something out

Always loved them... When they came out, as a teen, I could only afford having a few (Dell Curry was my first pack pulled NBA auto! and I had a Sam Perkins blue that I still own but which turned black)... When I got back into the hobby that is one of the first set I built, here it is :
