Default 1988 Topps Cloth Experimental—Anybody have more info??

Just got an e-mail from PSA that ST had some tough Jeter cards in their current auction that matched my registry set. I was looking around and I saw this Glavine RC:

http://smalltraditions.com/Extraordi...-LOT38575.aspx

I had never heard of these before! Does anyone have more info on these, or actually have one? I'd like to track down a Mattingly, but have no idea on what they are worth (other than the fact that they are extremely rare, apparently).

It was a test set that was very limitedly released. They are tough, but not as bad as the 1985 minis.

My opinion only, but with something this rare, I only chase if it’s PC. The casual collector doesn’t know enough about them to pay the premium is reselling, but those holding expect the premium. Because of this, you won’t find many that aren’t high BIN. If u find an auction, jump on it

They're tougher than 1985 minis.

There is a guy in the Vintage section seeking out the 1977 ones right now, he actually has the Cloth in his name.

The '76s have 2 cards. They also exist in uncut sheet form.
'72s are about as tough as '88s.
'70s are the toughest Topps Cloth.

From what I've read from several sites the consensus seems to be that something like 50 of the sheets were printed and most were destroyed but some made it out the back door.

So less than 50 of each card that was on the sheet exist. Not all cards from the original Topps set were made into the Cloth version hence the smaller checklist (the numbering is different too).

I actually just sent a Glavine rookie in to PWCC for consignment for their upcoming auction. A BGS 9. This used to be the SGC Mint copy.

So for the Glavine, from the major grading companies there was 1 SGS which is now BGS.

And now 4 BGS and 2 PSA to give you an idea of what the qty is out there (for the encapsulated versions at least).

I thought I read that PSA stopped grading these but I guess not.

Unfortunately it's in the safe deposit box right now.....but it looks just like his regular 1970 card, except it's on cloth.

I'm the guy seeking the 77s. I have 4 complete PSA sets with the only all 10 set. The others are moving along as well.

I also have a very nice 88 uncut sheet framed along with a a few of the 72s. The 70 and 76s are on the list as well. I even started collecting the 2012 cloth which are replicas of the 77 set.

I can tell you most of what you may want to know about the 77 set as I have another 20-30 copies of each card raw and some unopened boxes.

The one question I still cannot get answered is why there is one or two stars on the back of a card. The same player has cards with each designation and I am trying to grab a 10 of each. I've been collecting the set since it came out, so it has been a few weeks.
