Post Let's All Do the Triple-A Shuffle

For those keeping track:

Your new AAA affiliates:

Mets to Syracuse.
Rangers to Nashville.
Astros to Round Rock.
A's to Las Vegas.
Nationals to Fresno. (that's like, right around the corner, right?)
Brewers to San Antonio. (formerly a AA club)

Wow. Losers (aside from Colorado Springs who now no longer has full season MILB baseball) seem to be the Nats and Rangers.

Nats will probably now need ~24 hour notice for a call-up from AAA to arrive; I thought they would get Nashville, but I guess the Rangers beat them to it. For the Rangers, Nashville seems to be a worse choice geographically than Round Rock or San Antonio, but Nashville has newer facilities and quite a few flights between Dallas and Nashville every day.

Rumor is this might happen:

Pensacola: Twins or Athletics
Chattanooga: Reds or Athletics
Midland: Reds or Twins

Heard Brewers are moving from one dump of a stadium to another dump of a stadium that pretty much San Antonio was all they could get at it's a stadium below most AAA standards. Hopefully Brewers can start shopping around and in couple years when deal is up find a city that has a decent ballpark to play in for their AAA team.

The funniest thing to me about the Mets/Syracuse situation is that the Mets have now owned the (soon-to-be-renamed) Chiefs for a year, which means the Chiefs were under Mets control, while fielding a Nationals affiliate, for an entire baseball season.

Though I'll miss the 'Chiefs' moniker, I look forward to finding out what the new team name will be (I know Cuomo declared that it would be the 'Mets', but A. he's just a politician so what does he know, and B. it doesn't make any sense, given the recent movement over the past several years to rid the minor leagues of the nicknames of the MLB parent club). I say, make the Salt Potatoes a permanent thing, but with Mets colors. The handful of 'alter-ego games' the Chiefs played as the Salt Potatoes over the past two seasons was a big hit with the fans.

I'm ignorant. Can someone educate me as to why all these changes happened?

Could be worse. I remember when the Marlins came in to the league their first AAA team was in Edmonton! Talk about motivation. Not good enough in sunny Miami? Fine, we’re sending you to Canada!

Contracts were up and either negotiations fell throuh or a better deal came along. Once in a while it happens for logistical reasons or simply because the parent club prefers a different league.

Washington has a club in Fresno, San Francisco has a club in Richmond....makes complete sense.

I wouldn’t be surprised that wherever the nats land is a one year deal. The Potomac Nationals (High A) in northern VA are moving about an hour south in 2020 leaving their current stadium open. It’s not a great stadium but at least it’s close.
