I was forunate enough to come across some 1998-99 Topps Chrome hobby boxes a month or 2 ago.
My issue is with the cards sticking. I know this is a common problem with these older chrome cards but is there anything I can do to stop them from sticking to everything. I'd like to send a few items into PSA (I know these can be very tough to grade, so its more to keep them slabbed then to try for PSA 10s) but when I penny sleeve them, they stick to the penny sleeve. Im worried that the penny sleeve will remove some of the color from the card when it is taken out of it, as well as other surface issues that may occur. I tried using a microfiber cloth to try to gently remove some of the sticky layer and it worked a little bit on a few cards but I also smeared the color on the surface of the Kobe Coast to Coast Refractor (doh!). I have a few "airing out" to see if that will work too. The cards I have aren't the big cards so if I can't get them slabbed its not a big deal. Any advice would be appreciated. |

I don't recall any Chrome cards, sticking to where damage was created. When I opened a 93 Finest box last year, some of the cards did stick in the pack, (same finish as Chrome) and there wasn't any damage.
I have heard of folks taking a sealed box and leaving them in a freezer for a bit, and then opening. I'd be curious if when you open the packs, if the cards are greening.

No greening on the cards. When I opened them, they were sticking to each other but it wasn't unbearable. I might be being overly cautious about the pennys. The only damage I have thus far is self created (when I tried to clean the Kobe refractor). I was just reading about the freezer thing. Sounds interesting. I will be taking a few I have in the penny sleeves out tonight to check for any issues. |

They dont really stick together as badly as those releasese that have lots of foil that can get easily damaged. |
