I know that the main difference between the two is that chrome is printed on sturdier and glossier stock. Besides that though, are there any other differences between the two products, such as one having cards that the other one doesn't? If they're pretty much the same I think I'll stick with chrome but if there are enough differences I might do both. It'll be the first box of cards I've ever bought.
Thanks for any info, RBJR85 |

Series 1 is probably the funniest rip in all of baseball.

It's kind of frowned to mention competitor's and their prices on the Blowout Cards Forum. Blowoutcards.com runs this site and sells products.

Topps - is released in 2 products - Series 1 and Series 2. The base set is 700 cards.
(there's also Topps Update, which almost functions like a Series 3) Topps Chrome - the base set is 200 cards. The focus in Topps Chrome is more on parallels and rookie autographs. Topps is more about inserts, there's some parallels too. I'd recommend regular Topps if it's your first hobby box. More cards, more fun for the smaller budget, if that's your thing. |

Delete the price of what you bought the box for. That is bannable.

Allen & Ginter also look interesting. Although I'm not sure how I feel about all the random non baseball related inserts. I also like Gypsy Queen, Bowman, Bowman Chrome, Topps Gold Label, Topps Stadium Club, Topps Big League and Topps Gallery. Panini and Leaf also have nice looking cards, but I want team names and logos on my cards. So they're out.

Opening day is very low end. If you just want a fun break and are cool with not getting hits, it's a great deal. If you're looking for a return, you'll want to open in large quantities and make sets and master sets and hope for some of the rare parallels/hits.
Overall, of things with the flagship design, I like regular flagship the best. Usually series 2 or update because they usually have better rookie cards.

I think this could be slowly changing. Opening Day is offering decent value for the price. There was a time when it was Base only and cheaply made, but the quality is improving, the blue foil parallels are great and there are valuable SPs as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I probably will end up making a profit on Opening Day this year, and that is not something I normally even attempt. And I will probably still find more of '18 Op Day to rip in a month or two, when i am back out on the road.
But I have a special situation this year - excellent access to the purple parallels, in 3-pack blister packs + 3 purples, all for the excellent price of just about tree-fiddy. Yes really. Opening Day changed majorly this year. The hits stayed about the same - difficult pulls, but then worth good amounts because of that. The Blues are the hardest to hit that I have ever seen (thanks Aaron Judge!). But the real news was the checklist - 65 of the cards, about 1/3 of the checklist, have images that are NOT repeats of the corresponding S1/S2 card. Sometimes the Opening Day card is better, sometimes S1/2 is better. About 20 of the RCs feature unique-to-Op Day images. I don't rip it for the hits, but I rip enough of it to get about 1-2 per year and then pay for a good part of that ripping, something that never happens with S1 or Chrome. For whatever reason I almost always like 1 or 2 of the insert sets, above and beyond the Mascots cards that I always enjoy. Mr. Met with a T-shirt Cannon? Pirate Parrot waving the Jolly Roger? Even the scruffy whatever Mascot the Snakes came up with (Diamondbacks couldn't really have a snake character for a mascot, when you think about it), anyway Scruffy or whatever rapelling down into the stadium? The Swinging Friar in San Diego sporting psychedelic shades? Sign me up for enjoying all of those. And then 1-2 of their inserts totally fail to make me want to keep them, but that is how I almost always feel about S1/S2 inserts. So this year with 65 more "Flagship" design cards in it, I enjoyed adding those to my S1+S2+Update set. I wrote all this up on my Blog just the other day if you want to see all those cards. Ripping it for fun - the cheapest fun in all of baseball cards. Ripping it for ROI? Your mileage may vary. |

I ESPECIALLY like the purple parallels that were scheduled to be at Toys R Us but were released elsewhere. Too bad some of the biggest names weren't in it this year. I did get Albies, Hoskins, and others... but never lucked into an Ohtani. I'm looking forward to trying to find them in 2019... no longer Toys R Us, but I hope they find a retailer to work with! |

I just saw the designs for the upcoming 2019 flagship Topps and I'm not sure how I feel about it. The borders are kind of awkward and make the cards look almost off center. It might just take getting used to.
