Default What's the deal with all the big time high rollers leaving the hobby???

Seems like a lot of people are giving up on the hobby lately. What is the deal? Is it all the trimmers and fakes and non-sense that is taking place in the hobby that is making people step away??????

Which high rollers are leaving? I'm about to get the F out too, too many undesirable elements.

I don't know of many who are leaving. I am selling off my lower end/more common cards and just keeping my high end/rare cards. I am putting all or most of the sales into a fund for a new house.

I also got to the point where super collecting one player became very tiresome and burdensome for me. I just couldn't handle the volume anymore. I don't know how you do it Randy! lol

I’m still in. I’m going down with the ship.

I’m a medium roller.

Who’s leaving?

Who is leaving? Yesterday was probably the most I’ve spent in a day in the last year. Lol.

Come on man, you can't start a thread like this and then not name the people leaving.

I don’t roll that way. I coast. Is this more fallout from the trimming scandal?

I won six auctions last night - five rookies from last year and one big card that I've wanted for a LONG time and been actively pursuing for over a year. A Top-20-25 card in my collection.

I also had a long time friend, who occasionally needs to move some stuff reach out and sell me a nice lot.

Nothing mind blowing, but still the most I've spent in a long time.

I heard you were selling out. The white guy on the corner with the corn rows told me that.

I picked up a card, also, that I have been looking at for about 2-3 years. FINALLY landed it. I am a little hush-hush on details until it arrives. Don't want to jinx it...…….

I don't know if this is, in fact, the case, but in general (i.e. across all sports) I think that the hobby is becoming rather stagnant due to several factors:

#1) Too many products being released
#2) Lack of innovation...most products are similar conceptually
#3) The autograph market becoming flooded
#4) Too much focus on rookies

Nice! Well, whatever it is, hopefully you show it off. You don't seem to do a lot of maildays though.

The hobby in general isn’t stagnant. Just the areas you’ve highlighted.

Money is flowing away from new releases, autos, and redundant products, and toward 90s inserts/parallels, everything MJ, high-end superstars, and early Prizm.

I think I've seen 3 big posts in the last month about people leaving or thinning things out. One of them (doublex) explained himself in this thread. The rest of the posts here seem to be a lot more speculation.

Since I don't own a cell phone, it makes it difficult to show off, but I will let you know when the eagle has landed...…….
