Not sure if the kids will care at all about collecting them, or will just rip and flip to get the costume codes.

I don't play, so I'm not sure if any costumes will be exclusive to these cards or not, and if not how rare they are to obtain in game otherwise.

There's a lot of rich kids and completionist gamers out there who I'm sure would pay big for rare exclusive costume codes off these cards.

The weird thing is the flyer says there's no gameplay interation (sp???) with the online game, so do they mean the cards don't unlock in game content or that the cards don't serve any further function within the game beyond unlocking outfits.

Fortnite goes out of its way to make sure there is no competive advantage by paying for skins so it is probably your second idea

From what I understand, the rare costume cards don't unlock anything, they just are cards with images of rare costumes.

I just saw this in my email. It might not be a bad $600 dollar gamble to buy and hold a case. They could go the way of TWD cards from their initial release and command a premium, especially if there is an exclusive skin that isn't available in-game.

Not seeing any mention of codes being included with the cards, just that these have no interactions with the game. If they did thought, these would fly off the shelf. They still may be a hit, but Fortnite popularity has seemed to go down, although still up there.

Personally, as silly as it is, I kind of like it. I do enjoy Fortnite, nad this covers two of my hobbies, so win win, plus price point isn't too bad.

Honestly, I think it's a bad idea. Fortnite is already losing players due to Apex Legends and Fortnite's attempt with Funko Pops already tanked. These things are everywhere and no real collector buys them. Really long shot in the world we live today. Game hypes last about a year or until something new and fresh comes along.

If that's the case, then this will be a dud.

It's a set of game screenshots then.

Having unlockables would be a huge draw.

I agree. If there were code card hits, then a big YES from me. World of Warcraft Loot cards were a huge success for awhile. Loot cards sold for hundreds because of that epic unlockable that could only be obtained this way.

I saw this and immediately thought - hey, it's Webkinz's replacement for black friday 2020-2030.

That, or Panini will dig up those Atari ET games, and bury their unsold cases under them.

I got excited for a second because my kid plays Fortnite, but given there is no game integration with the cards, I know he would have no interest. It's too bad - they could have made a killing if there was game integration.

Those WoW loot cards were amazing. I wish someone would do an art-based Warcraft set and have new loot cards. You can still get those items from codes in capsule machine at Blizzcon. Some of the longest lines you'll see there are for the capsule machines.

I realize everyone has their own tastes, but this is a really dumb product imo, even if by a miracle cases double in price.

This will likely pop up at Dollar Tree in a $1 a pack version like some other Panini stuff.

Kids collected garbage pail kids too. I think most are underestimatating what in game ads about this products existence can do for sales. Nobody is suggesting this will be 300-400 a box months after release, but there are plans to do several releases. I wouldn't be surprised if holofoils and the mega box exclusives bring in decent coin from fans of the game. Panini isn't stupid for chasing a fan base that has 40 million + users. Heck, that is probably 10 times the amount of sportscard collectors. These people spend a TON of money monthly on buying digital content, so why not physical content too. No doubt they missed the opportunity to print money with loot cards. Maybe they will square that away with the next release.

Oh I get it, my kids are always wanting to by add ons for their app games and I think that is ridiculous. I guess we all buy things that others think are a complete waste of money.

Fortnite made something like $3billion in 2018. If there are rare codes for the game in this, it will be a big seller, if not, then it will fizzle.

Doesn't it say on the bottom no game play interaction?

Yes, no game play interaction. Maybe some are hoping Panini changes things up last minute and adds some loot cards to the production run. This product is already packaged and ready to ship to distributors at this point. Perhaps they get the hint and add interactive elements for the next series. I still think it will be a good release because of set size (300 cards) , difficulty of making sets, and holofoils. Based on information it will take at minimum 25 boxes just to complete a complete set of the regular cards ( legendary cards are 1:12 with a 50 cards checklist) and 200 boxes to complete a holofoil set (1:24 packs) IF the holofoil cards are not tiered. IF the holofoils are tiered; for example,Uncommon holo is 4 times easier to pull than a Legendary foil well, it could take hundreds more to complete. From a trading card standpoint that is a fun chase. From a licensing standpoint, will anybody care? TBD It is relatively cheap ($48/box) so I will buy a Hobby case and give it a chance. I know enough people who play the game that it will make a fun gift if it is a complete dud.

Time for the big question....Will Ninja be collecting these? LOL. If yes then these will be on fire after one twitch broadcast. My teenage son was beside me yesterday when I opened the solicitation email for this. He said that this was going to be gold but I’m a little pessimistic about it.

Exactly. It's for kids. My nephew spends like 50% of his time just changing outfits to match his friends and dancihn/emoting with them. This could be fun for them, not for adults worried about roi.
I do wish they had made it a sticker album like they do for nba/nfl/soccer. That would have been fire.

After some deep thoughts...The price is going to be pretty friendly on this stuff to kids and parents especially the retail blasters and mega boxes. I can see Walmart and Target pumping a lot of this through the checkouts. All it takes is a few kids bringing these to school and before you know it everyone has to have them. After witnessing the Silly Band explosion about 10 years ago I’ll never question the power of fomo with children and parents that won’t allow their child to be the one without the latest fad.

With no serial numbered cards this will likely be heavily printed. Retailers will do fine selling at retail imo but I think anyone expecting hobby boxes to double in price will never see this happen.

I really hope it does well. Anytime something like this catches on is an opportunity for more kids to expand into other card collecting. The hobby is going to need this generation to survive.
