Default Dirk Nowitzki announces retirement after 21 seasons

My all time favorite player. Much respect to him.

What a career it was. It’s going to be a huge shift not seeing Dirk and Wade in the box scores and blurbs everyday.

One of my all time favorites..i really feel he is so underappreciated..i love he was rewarded for being loyal to the mavs by coming through with a title. He took so much flak for losing to Miami in his first finals and also losing as #1 seed in his mvp year to the warriors...he never made excuses..he didn't take an easy way out..he just perservered and was able to deliver in what i believe was such a great playoff run when you look who they knocked off. Hell of a player...gonna miss seeing him play

Just watched the ceremony on NBA TV. EPIC EPIC EPIC!

He will be severely missed. One of the strong connections to my childhood. I remember pulling his TC Rookie back in 98 as an 11 year old, then his SPA Auto out of 99 UD SPA and thinking I got skunked on the box cause I pulled this scrub!

With dirk retiring is Vince carter the last remaining active player drafted in the 90’s?

Amazing career for the future hofer. The Mavs should make a statue of dirk with David hasselhoff,

Hated him during his prime but only because of how much damage he could do. Nothing but respect for his game and professionalism

Hope he doesn’t go off like tonight and drop 30 in SA lol

Congrats dirk! You’ll be missed big fella. I was hoping he would play one more year to help mentor Luka and the unicorn as a player but I imagine he’ll have a lifetime position in some capacity with the Mavs.

Watched the Wade pre-game and then switched to the Mavs. Smiled throughout their post-game.
I know VC is still around but for me, with Duncan going and now Dirk, the 90s are finally gone. And I'm really sad about it. That was my youth, my NBA welcome. I don't wanna grow up.

KD before KD.

Always nice to fans and the press.

Never a bad thing said about him.

Don't think I can think of a better ambassador of the game.

Staubach, Ryan, Nowitzki, Modano.

Dallas has a heck of a Sports Rushmore to be proud of.

Kind of crazy to think the city featured the greatest foreign-born basketball player and the greatest American-born hockey player.

Dirk is the man. If you haven’t yet, watch that documentary on him.

With his signature shot. Unstoppable.

I’ve been a Mavs fan since he got drafted. It’s been a hell of a run: from the heartbreak of the 2006 Finals to the sweet, sweet redemption of the 2011 Finals — I can say that I’ll never enjoy watching another athlete the way I enjoyed watching Dirk. #MFFL

Dirk is my idol. He always was and always will be. Living 1.5hours away from his hometown würzburg he always was the player i looked up to. I really thought he would play one more season to get a shot for one more playoff appearance (with a healthy porzingis and luka).

Thank you Dirk for all you´ve done for the Mavs and Basketball in general and all the great memories. I will really miss you. Mavs Basketball will not be the same next year without you!

Agreed. Dirk giving everybody the business the year Dallas won is such a memorable Finals for me.
