Default question about authenticity of Fleer relic cards

I like buying older HOF relic cards in the 3 major sports, I prefer those that are listed as "game used", but I have been steering clear of Fleer because of rumors I vaguely recall about what happened when they closed shop. I don't know what the rumors really are or if they are true, but I've been staying away from Fleer cards altogether.

Is that a good practice or am I being silly? Are Fleer cards from 2000-20whatever any more likely to be counterfeit or suspect or non-legit in any way? At least more so than any other brands? I know nothing is 100% fool proof, but I'm just wondering if staying away from Fleer is a good idea or not.

You should post this in the sports forum. But yes, be wary of items purchased at the end of their business, including jerseys and autos. Especially patches, but all companies seem to be having issues with people improving those long after the card was made.
