Default Kobe values over the next 10-15 years

Does anyone see upside in Kobe rookies and inserts over the next 15 years? Hall of game might show a small bump, but how about beyond? We have seen many legs up on Jordan values since retirement. Curious as to the sentiment of Kobe cards following a similar trajectory, but obviously lower overall values. Or will his remain flat mostly.

Same question for Lebron post retirement.

honestly its weird. when he retried it was like he was forgotten on this site. panini ruined the rarity of his autos so no one gets really excited when they pull one unless its very rare. i dont think hes a good long term investment. I plan to sell off my kobe collection when he gets inducted. we may see a bump when asian collectors hit their prime age for spending and kobe prices soar as he is huge in asia.

I'm honestly surprised his auto prices have been stable so far. Looks like stable future in the short term. Definitely not an investment unless it's Topps Chrome rookie or logoman type card.

Only reason Lebron and MJ are easy and safe investments and will continue to increase is because they are not being made anymore atleast nba autos. Plus after Lebron retires there will be no more Lebron cards made.

I think Kobe's cards like his Topps Chrome RC's and his EX are very popular and will continue to be. Also, I see an increase in Kobe Upper Deck autographs (the early years) more than the Panini sticker autographs...

Kobe has his spot in the collector's HOF, so I imagine that his nicer 90's stuff and High End Upper Deck 00's stuff should be fine. But I wouldn't expect much from his Panini era stuff, with the exception of few key cards ('12 Prizm, etc). There's nothing that tells me that Panini won't be cranking out his autos for years to come.

Now LeBron, on the other hand.... unless the NBA contract changes companies away from Panini soon, talk to me about his how his NBA uniform cards are doing about 1-2 years after his retirement!

Just chase early autographs and rare inserts/rookie cards

Really wouldn't bother with newer autographs unless it's a low numbered card from a high end set.

Kobe cards have depreciating value, not worth it to invest in. Might as well flush your money in the toilet. Zion on the other hand, I heard he is going to be the future GOAT.

If it's not expensive now, it's not going to be more expensive later.

And this.

Lotta ignorant takes early in this thread. His prices have been steadily rising since he retired, especially 90s stuff and low pop/high grade. Kobe is part of the holy trinity for basketball collectors: MJ, LeBron and Kobe.

I think anything Pre-Panini will hold its value well and if anything increase gradually over time.

Panini really messed it up by mass producing his autos. I wonder if Kobe had any say in that his auto is starting to de-value because of the sheer volume of them. Like if you told me that a kobe auto could be had for under $100 10 years ago I would have said that is not possible at all.

As others have mentioned his low numbered inserts and parallels pre-panini sell very well still and I expect them to hold their value if not go up going forward.

I'm feeling the way to go is the rare Rc stuff, rare 90's inserts and parallels and perhaps early U.D. exquisite type cards..........

Pay attention to the key panini releases like NT Colossal autos, immaculate acetates, jumbo patches and milestones, impeccable autos, prime silhouettes, flawless star swatches. Their prices keep going up if you are lucky enough to find one. And recently panini is running out of Kobe jerseys so he has not been included in key sets that he was in before. Generally agree that old upper deck autos will continue to appreciate in value but have to think these key panini releases will as well.

His Panini stuff could fall off a bit after 15 more years of saturation ,but this kinda of stuff continues to set record highs with each new listing. Not sure if that trend stops unless the economy craps out.

That auto may not even be visible in 10-15 years.

True, I guess that wasn't the best example.

His more common stuff will remain stagnant or soften.

His high end stuff will remain stagnant.

Anything that “goes up” in price is simply being passed around by high end Kobe guys that try to prop the value of their own cards.

Over time, Kobe will fade away as he will never achieve jordan legendary status.

You cant compare Kobe stuff to LeBron or MJ. Their cards have spiked greatly due to the licensing issue. MJ hasnt had a licensed card in 10 years resulting in collectors going to the bigger 90s cards. For LeBron, collectors have been deprived of licensed autos for over 10 years which also has collectors going to his 2000's stuff for the higher end cards (not that there arent high end LBJ cards now but they are much less abundant. Also, once hes retired, there will no longer be licensed LBJ cards made.

Kobe will always be looked at highly but I dont see his stuff rising significantly (except rooks like chrome or finest).

Great to read all of these different views. Sounds like mixed opinions which is what makes the hobby exciting.

Seems like everyone agrees though that Lebron is on a different tier, due to licensing and also legacy. What do you all see Lebron cards doing over the same period (15 years)? . Consistent gradual increases over time, or, a few raging legs up as we have seen with Jordan’s since hall of fame induction. I’m not a fan of panini era Lebron. Personal preference maybe.

WRONG, my good sir. Vintage baseball is the only reasonable investment out there. Everything out there is simply fluff and should be immediately discarded.

Sports cards are just for fun because I have the authority to dictate every single person's relationship with their own passion. Sell everything. Sell it now. The bubble is gonna burst any second; let's just keep on waiting!
