Most Hated MLB Team by State

Since we are sorta on this topic in the Gleyber-pump thread...here is a visual:

I'm surprised that no love for the Dodgers in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, etc. Is there a history that I don't know about with those states and the Dodgers?

Agreed, just the simple fact that their AAA team is there makes me doubt that.

Also, I wouldn’t think Kansas would hate the Dodgers.. I would think it would be an AL team.

It would almost be interesting to see who came in second in each state too. Florida hating the yankees seems a bit weird to me because of all of the retirees supposedly moving there from NY.

Fun articles, but they’re all garbage from an accuracy point of view. (Based on “geotagged twitter data”. Less than 1% of tweets are geotagged, so that’s limiting right off the bat.)

100% agree with this. Cubs are far and away the most popular team in Iowa. That’s why I am the diehard fan that I am today. Not only is there the AAA team, but we got most of the Cubs TV broadcasts locally (even the non-WGN, at least when I lived there). While there is some spattering of Royals, Cards, Twins, and Brewers fans here and there, Cubs are nearly universal.

The places like Hawaii and Louisiana like the Yankees because they’re all they hear about, being a state that has no major league team. Similar to the Cowboys in football.

Or just because they don’t have a team and the Yankees are historically the best baseball team ever, so they say “fuggit, guess I’ll root for a winner.”

The graph in the OP doesnt tell the whole story for Indiana. The Northern part (everything above Indianapolis is heavy in Cubs fans. The southern part is a mix of Cubs/Reds fans due to proximity to Cincinnati.

Cubs fans' most hated is Cardinals.

Reds fans' most hated is Cubs.

What's fun is that when you go to Reds Vs. Cubs games in Cincy, there is generally a split of 60% Cubs fans - 40% Reds fans.

Yes, Cub fans most popular, but also most obnoxious fans, so most hated as well, because of Cubs fans.

So most loved and most hated in Iowa, can be both.

This map actually shows the challenge that Gleyber faces... while being "most popular team", they have like 7-8% of the fan base following them. And something like 5-10 other teams are barely behind. So... unless Gleyber breaks beyond Yankee fans, he'll have a hard time getting the demand to drive up his card prices further
