Default Football "Flagship" Product?

Hello,

I did some searches for the answer to this and I'm sure it is there but I've missed it. I've recently begun buying baseball packs and want to try some football. I know Topps flagship is the... "flagship" of the modern baseball card hobby with regard to true rookies etc. Could someone help me with the football equivalent? What is the "standard" product? I really appreciate any guidance.

As far as “base” level like Topps is, probably Donruss or Score...which just sounds weird to me to speak of Donruss as a FB card brand.

Optic and Prizm are comparable to your chrome cards and are obvious the more sought after products for “base” rookies.

I assumed the question was which set was comparable to “base” Topps.

There isn’t a flagship in regard to true RC. However Optic, Prizm and Contenders autos are good rookie cards to collect.

I disagree on Score... It’s Prizm/Optic for base rookie’s/refractor rookies. For rookie autos it’s Contenders, National Treasures RPA or Optic rookie autos. Donruss is good, but Optic is better. It’s like Topps vs Topps chrome or Bowman vs Bowman Chrome in baseball. I wouldn’t touch score personally.

Wow. Ok. Thanks! It seem the water is a bit muddier in the football world. I just like to buy the occasional walmart pack or blaster and rip for fun. And just wondered the best one to pick up for football. There isn't a LCS anywhere near me in the Woodlands/North Houston area. This gives me some things to look at. Thanks for the quick replies!

Haha...they weren’t really worth what I paid for them but I just cleaned out the 242 and Woodlands Pkwy Walmart’s of 2017 score for some fun cheap rips...lol.

If you just want a lot of cards, the prestige hanger boxes aren’t bad for a retail buy. You get a card numbered to at least 300 or less, a 50/50 at a hit (mem cards are kinda trash in the set tho) and a bunch of rookies.

Contenders and Contenders Optic seems to be the big sellers along with NT... Of course these come at a premium and best bet is to get them when they first hit the market as prices seem to go up shortly after.

It's only more muddy on this end, since there are no legacy brands in football. It's all new.

On the baseball side, you have Topps kicking out rookies from that brand for like the past 70 years

On the football side, National Treasues is roughly 10 years old, on its 3rd name and second owner of the brand.

Not much history in any current football releases to consider a true flagship

There isn't one. Which is why I no longer collect or buy/sell FB cards.

Flagship in FB cards is now the S.S. POOPNINI.

I would say Prizm. Never had a problem moving a Prizm. They also seem to increase in value the quickest when a player gets hot.

Then your best bet for going to Target & Wally World is Prizm or Optic. Donruss is never shown around here. They have a couple rare parallel's in them and insert auto's but none really collects it around here from what I see. Optic is basically the "Chrome" parallel of Donruss and can be bought at either place and you get "Exclusive" colors in either Prizm or Optic which can be a nice sought after hit (Prizm Retail Red's & Blues) that can give you a nice return.

Flagship and key for rcs are two seperate things....as it is in baseball as well. So your going to get a mix of answers unless you are more specific.

If I had to say a Panini brand, Prizm.

#2 is as well. Rare, but a few are in those retail blasters, at least in 2019.

I’ll ask the same question & clarify a bit for how it fits me.

I’m a Dolphins fan & am collecting all Dolphins Topps base cards. I’d love to continue that post-Topps. The main appeal with this collection is seeing the key members of the team on a yearly basis.

I’m assuming Donruss is the answer but would just like some clarification.

I’d vote Score: brand longevity, decent designs.

How is prizm viewed in football versus optic? I’m familiar with the arguments and pecking order in basketball (prizm is basically king, with optic having a vocal group of supporters), but I’m not entirely clear on how the football world distinguishes the brands. It seems like prizm is more popular and has greater prominence in football but I’m not totally clear on this. Can someone offer some opinions on this?

Edit- sorry not trying to hijack...asking about these brands in terms of their positions as potential flagship football products.
