Default 2019 ALCS - Houston Astros vs. New York Yankees

I can't believe this thread wasn't created yet. Let the trash talking begin!

Game 1: New York Yankees at Houston Astros, Saturday, 8 p.m. EDT, FOX

Game 2: New York Yankees at Houston Astros, Sunday, 8 p.m. EDT, FS1

Game 3: Houston Astros at New York Yankees, Oct. 15, FS1 or FOX

Game 4: Houston Astros at New York Yankees, Oct. 16, FS1 or FOX

*Game 5: Houston Astros at New York Yankees, Oct. 17, FS1 or FOX

*Game 6: New York Yankees at Houston Astros, Oct. 19, FS1 or FOX

*Game 7: New York Yankees at Houston Astros, Oct. 20, FS1 or FOX

Not sure on the Yankees since different news outlets have different starters, but it appears most likely to be

Game 1: Greinke vs. Tanaka
Game 2: Verlander vs. Severino
Game 3: Cole vs. Paxton

Game 2 is the key here. Whether JV can bounce back and if Severino can continue to shake off his poor playoff performances of years past. Greinke is very beatable (and I've seen a lot of him this year being on my fantasy team), and while Cole is ridiculous right now, pitching in the Bronx in 40 degree temps and a boisterous crowd whose energy and volume are unmatched in October is the best case scenario they could have hoped for to possibly knock him off his game. My game by game predictions:

1: Yanks big, 4 HR game as a team
2: Astros, JV bounces back
3: Yanks behind a strong Paxton start and getting to the 'Stros pen after Cole K's another 10+
4: Yanks
5: Astros with their backs against the wall pull one out in the Bronx.
6: Yanks knowing they want no part of being in Houston for a game 7 scratch a couple off Cole

Yanks in 6 to set up an ol skool WS with STL, which they win 4-1 with the only loss being against Flaherty.

Verlander will be starting game 6, not Cole. I believe game 4 will be something like Miley vs. Haap. Cole will be game 7 if needed.

Thanks for the big write-up and breakdown. I just hope you're wrong, as NY vs. StL would be the worst.

HFA. Astros in 7. Cole being unstoppable is the difference maker.

Expect the unexpected. I think NY Yankee killer will be Greinke. Cole has been on a such a roll, I don't expect him to roll over all the way to the World Series. Statistically, he is due for a forgivable game. Home field advantage wins, I mean the field with a roof is going to win.

I will go astros in 7. Just dont see this being a quick series either way. I will say (and have said) I hate the 2-3-2 format. I get it is nice for travel but if every team wins at home then you have the team with hfa facing 2 elimination games instead of 1.

Yankees in 5. Close it out at home.

Agreed. Miss the days of the 2-2-1-1-1.

If JV can go G2, then I think the Astros can go back to NY tied 1-1. I'd think Cole can get the job done to make it 2-1. Then it's up to others until JV and Cole can come back around. Not a fan of either team and probably won't watch much. But might be a pretty decent series. Winner most likely faces St. Louis for WS.

I really don't see how the Yanks can hang.

The line-up, starting pitching, defense and manager all favor/heavily favor the Astros. Only thing that is close are the bullpens, which I would give an edge the the Astros anyway.

As an Astros fan, I would be greatly dissapointed if they fail to win the World Series. They have to win more than one to make this rebuild a success. Kind of like the Cubs can only be viewed as a disappointment because they only won one title.

I'm a pessimistic Yankees fan so I don't like to talk them up a whole lot, and I agree the Astros look great on paper, but they just lost two games in a five game series to a garbage wild card team, and the Yankees have a funny way of getting to "unstoppable" pitchers in the playoffs. Not saying they'll win for sure, but their lineup is ridiculous IF all cylinders are firing, so I have a hard time understanding how anyone could think the Yankees can't hang with the Astros, given all this.

As with everything, it all depends on how players play in a particular series. Either of these teams has the ability to sweep this thing, but the ALCS is going to be a can of worms nobody's cracked the seal on.

Should be a doozy IMO
Houston having to turn over the rotation because of the 5 game series could be a great equalizer.

Maybe. But their 2 big dogs will still be able to start twice each if need be.

With what you said, I guess we can probably both agree that the winner of this series should win the World Series. The 2 best teams all year. The 2 best teams left.

Just as he was against the Rays. No way Houston wins that series without him. Dude is an absolute beast. Stros in 6.

Sure. But having Cole and JV lined up to immediately put their boots on NYY throats in game 1/2 would've been preferred and just may end up being a big difference maker. We shall see.
