Default Why isn't Mike Alstott in the Hall of Fame?

With all this Frank Gore talk, and everyone playing "Is so and so a Hall of Famer" How does Alstott get overlooked by the hall?

Almost 7400 total yards & 71 TD's is pretty crazy for a full back. You can even argue he was the greatest full back of his generation. Maybe even one of the best all time.

Plenty of full backs in the HOF. Jim Brown, Csonka, Nagurski, Motley, Riggins, Franco Harris, Jim Talyor, Earl Campbell. I'd put Mike's career up against most of those players.

Career highlights and awards

Super Bowl champion (XXXVII)
6× Pro Bowl (1997–2002)
3× First-team All-Pro (1997–1999)
Second-Team All-Pro (1996)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor
Consensus All-Big Ten (1995)
Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame
Indiana Football Hall of Fame

I'd vote him in based on his sexy rookie card alone!

Jim Brown has 16,000 career yards... in 118 games

Alstott has 7,500 in 158

Same thing though

I agree 100% that he should be. He was a staple on the Bucs during their glory years.

Clarify... Alstott is awesome and I would vote for him

Your comparisons of players are asinine

Carry on

Did something happen to you as a child? Am I saying only players greater than Jim Brown are allowed in the hall of fame?

Another asinine post from you. Do we have a beef going and no one told me? I'm saying I would put Mike's numbers and achievements up against most of the FB's currently in the Hall. Those players got in, and Mike's resume is comparable to most of them.

Could no one argue he was not a top 10 FB?

Just stop posting if all you are going to do is be a dick.

You mentioned Jim Brown in a Mike Alstott thread

Don’t be mad at me you’re dumb

Grid; I've never seen you like this. Take a breath.

P.S. Alstott should be in. Loved that dude.

Thank you! The A-Train was Badass and no one wanted to try to tackle him. He could get those pads low and just brutalize defenders in the open field.

And for a big back, he could leap too.

In context. Stop being an idiot. I understand your Ohio state education is working against you here. Maybe sip a little less of your Browns Kool Aid and then you can post without looking like a moron.

I'm a fan of Alstott, and his awards are pretty impressive. I just don't think he has the kind of stats that pop off the page and say HOFer when you look at them. All those guys you mentioned above had peaks during there career thay Alstott never touched. I mean in 1983 Riggins scored over 1/3 of the TDs that Alstott scored in his career in one season.

Also saw Nagurski on the list, it should be noted that he was a terrific D Line and O Lineman as well as RB.

It'd be a pretty lonely hall were that the case.

Warrick Dunn > Mike Alstott

Warrick isn't there either.

I just picked one, Franco Harris, since you used him as a comp in your original post.
173 total games, 12,210 yards, 100 total TDs (91 rushing, 9 receiving), 4.1 ypc average over 13 seasons
Mike Alstott
158 total games, 5088 yards, 71 total TDs (58 rushing, 13 receiving), 3.7 ypc average over 11 seasons
It's not even a discussion. Alstott was a good FB, but he simply should not be in HOF discussion.

Well he isn’t Franco. He’s Jim Brown. Don’t get it twisted.

Being the 9th best ever Fullback, the chance of him being voted in isn't that long of a shot. He was ahead of Alan Ameche, ahead of T. Richardson. L. Neal, T. Rathman and L. Centers who were all STUDS.

But is he as good of a rapper as soon to be HOFer Lev Bell?
