PSA unknowingly shows off the newest ALTERED Kawhi NT RPA

I want to thank someone for sending me a Kawhi Leonard feature in the newest issue of PSA's SMR magazine. Lucky for you guys, there's a digital version as well:
(EDIT: They removed the picture from the digital version...but they can't un-print the printed one)

When they got to the NT RPA, they pictures copy 140/199 in a PSA 5 slab with a nice, upgraded patch. I know the surface on this thing was bad to begin with, but you would think the additional damage would be enough to raise a red flag? Nah.

I don't know when this thing was slabbed, but here's the cert verification with an additional front and back scan:

At this point I've moved past that they're not trying to use all available resources, and I'm just resigned to the fact that they don't care that they're grading and staking their reputation to altered cards.

It may be my paranoia around this whole mess, but I also feel like that top edge MIGHT be trimmed.

Id rather have the 8.5 than a 5, even if the patch was real. Its a /199 i imagine they losy aby profit from the better patch on the grade drop when its not somr crazy loe numbered.

It's truly admirable. Kyle gains nothing from all this work he puts in to tracking these altered cards. Well, maybe he'll finally gain a Taco Bell sponsorship for the podcast. That would definitely make it all worth it.

I'm happy to see Steve Sloan reached out to you, Kyle. The card is no longer pictured in that article on psacard.com, so hopefully PSA will use your RPA resource when grading these cards.

Such a shame to see these old RPA forever ruined because some greedy SOB swapped out a patch for maybe a couple hundred bucks in extra profit.

They can barely catch trimmed and pressed cards. I know we should expect more from them and BGS. They’ve never claimed to be able to verify or authenticate patches. They just don’t have the time!

Wow. This company needs to just go away. My fear is that with so many collectors already so heavily invested in their slabs they have gotten too big to fail.

OP you’re a credit to this site. Such an invaluable resource for new collectors. Thanks for what you do.

Well, at least it didn't go from a BGS 8.5 to a PSA 10 for once.

BGS and PSA need to have patch databases and so do the card manufacturers going forward, at least for the major RPAs and star patch/autos.
