Default 2018/19 Sealed Wax Prices Skyrocketing

I've been checking prices recently and I've noticed a ton of 18/19 sealed wax prices increasing dramatically. I understand that as scarcity sets in, prices will increase, but I thought maybe all the 19/20 hype might actually make some of the 18/19 stuff more affordable. In fact, it's doing the opposite. I'm sure the hot starts from Luka and Trae didn't hurt either.

Just a couple quick examples, and this is comparing prices from only a week or two ago to right now on Blowout:

Cornerstones hobby $99.95 to $116.95
Dominion hobby $184.95 to $224.95
Prizm 12ct Cello $125.95 to $189.95
Prizm Blaster $21.95 to $33.95
Encased $179.95 to $221.95

I remember seeing blaster cases at 350-370 and retail prizm boxes at 59.95 for a long time.

Has anyone seen a price on 2018-19 NT hobby boxes. They’re becoming tougher to find.

The prices are being raised so they can be put on "sale".

To some extent probably. However Blowouts offer on Prizm FOTL was $325 a few weeks ago and it’s now $500.

Man, I bought 4 of the FOTL boxes in the after market for around $300 each I think cuz I never land them on release and that's looking real good now. Still keeping them unopened.

I hope all this Trae/Luka hype makes upcoming 2019 NBA wax more affordable.

Man I hope SOMETHING becomes more affordable. Whether Zion goes off like Adam Sandler playin dodgeball with kids in Billy Madison and prices shoot up and 18-19 goes back to "normal," or he sucks like a Hoover and 19-20 prices drop. I dont care which one I just wanna be able to buy SOMETHING for a reasonable priced. I only got back in right after nationals and have bought some boxes to sample what has changed since I collected from 88-98. Here's what I was paying:

Encased: 200 per
Optic contenders: 100 per
Impeccable: 634
18-19 NT: 1150
Spectra: 250
Hoops: 89
Goodwin champions: 100 per
Breakers rowe: 219
Hit parade: 100
Optic cello box: 100 per
Prizm cello box: 150 per

Ripped it all cuz thats why I'm in the hobby. My roi definitely blows but it's not why I collect. I just love ripping wax. I'd say that the prices I paid on some stuff were overpriced in the market as it WAS. I shudder to think of hobby prices if things keep going as they are.

You ain't lyin. It's been rough treading lately. Seems like any mid tier or bench player has 2-3 good games and suddenly everything shoots up 500% with a single thread.

It's been all retail and fotl for me, and looks like it's going to stay that way unless there's some crazy BO black friday deals.

If I see 2018-19 Prizm Basketball at Wal-Mart, should I be buying it?

What about 2019-20 Prizm Collegiate?

Thank you!

Collegiate will get tougher as time goes on. Personally, I would stay away at this point.

Prizm NBA is a buy at MSRP, but only if you can buy bulk and are willing to put in the work to sell it all off.

I’m just wishing I bought more 18/19 stuff a few weeks ago, but I was already eyeing some 19/20 stuff so I was saving my money for that. Encased is now looking like a pretty good buy at $180, but there’s no way I’m paying over $220 for it. I guess I’ll have to hope I can beat the bots in the next couple of weeks/months and pull some boxes direct from Panini on release.

i personally think it is a few factors

#1 they are raising the prices to then put it on sale.
#2 there are no official nba products out yet and 2018 product is starting to dry up.
#3 the 2018 draft class is very very good and the 2019 class to me does not look that good.
