Default Poll: 2019 Topps Holiday boxes - break or flip?

Break, flip, or hold? Interested in why, if you care to post.

I say break. I’ve been looking at every Walmart near me in hopes of finding some. This looks like an incredibly fun product. You have a shot at some decent rookie cards to make a couple of bucks on sure but overall this is the best holiday design Topps has ever created.

For those voting "hold", I'm curious the long-term value on these...particularly given the design upgrades this year.

The only thing valuable in this product is the rookies, metallic Rookies, and SP rookies. That is it. Don’t hold hoping for an auto. Autos are rare very hard to get. Hold only for the rookies, otherwise rip it now as it’s extremely fun.

Edit: I voted break.

Good points. I know the odds of autos in this product have always been high. Seems like a strong group of rookies and fun variations in these though.

I'm holding. It's an easy double in under 7 years.

I like to break! I can’t hold like TBP.

Let's really think about this everyone.

Are the big four legit? If you think so: HOLD
Is it printed in smaller quantities than series 2/update? If you think so: HOLD
Has it been a fun break (some say one of the best of the year) if you think so :HOLD
Does it click all the buttons on your list? if you think so: HOLD
Is it too "gimmickly" for you? If you think so: sell

For me, the answer is both. Buy some to rip and buy some to hold. It's the one product with all the rookies. Lots to chase with the various SPs. Great design. Given that TCU was such a letdown, I think this is the IT product of the postseason.

This is just another gimmicky product that won't hold value long term. 5 years from now, nobody will want a card of Tatis Jr. holding a candy cane instead of a bat.

I agree. Holiday boxes are gimmicks. Nobody gonna buy them in years to come.

Isn't that only like a 10.28% ROI not factoring in time value of money though right?

Rule of 72

72 / Rate of Return = Time in years it takes to double

Boxes in my closet ain't worth the 10% rate lol

I vote leave none for the kids and break that like you on crack

Convincing argument. Opened my first box tonight and did pretty well. Hit all the RCs except for Alonso.

I’m not greedy. I’ll take 10%/year as a savings account.

Time value of money?! If you're able to get 10.28% return on your money each year you're basically doing better than any money manager around. Unless this is sarcasm I missed, hah.

That said, I agree with you that he needs to rip it like it's crack

Rip and don't rip much....if you are just collecting for your PC, rip and buy all. If you are buying to rip and flip, value is just not going to be there. Especially once Draft hits, Bowmans' Best...then 2020 S1 flagship, Heritage....these Holiday cards usually don't hold value, they are similar to Fire in my eyes. Great the first couple weeks, then adios...imo. I'm actually surprised that some think 'candy cane' and 'xmas tree' cards will hold and go up in value. There is so much out there that is more collectible, imo.

Isn't this the same product that Blowout tries to get rid of on Black Friday every year?

I say break. I've opened four boxes so far and Tatis Jr. is stalking me (4 base and 2 metallics). Lots of other SPs and great RCs. Haven't hit an auto yet but this stuff seems loaded with all sorts of goodies. I'm going to bust some more today.

I broke two boxes, and thought it was fun for the price. Lots of variety and strong player list in a 200-card set.
