Default Jeff McNeil... Anyone investing in this guy?

I was looking at a guys stuff for sale in a fb group and he had a topps chrome rookie auto Vlad PSA 10... I wanted something to go along with it and I saw a Jeff Mcneil Topps Fathers Day Blue /50 PSA 10 and chose to purchase those 2 cards for 235$.. I wasnt too familiar with Jeff Mcneil but I remember reading good things so I took a shot. This guy had a pretty good year last year it looks like. I just started back into this 3 months ago so I didnt pay attention to last baseball season really. Anyone investing this guy.. His stuff seems cheap.
Thoughts?

Thanks

Josh

Am I investing in the already 27 year old McNeil after one good, not great, year? At least not for hobby people?

That’s a no from me Bob

He’s a fine player. Don’t get me wrong. I’d want him on my team.

McNeil will also be the same age as Mike Trout come April... with 26 career HR’s

He’s a good real life player

He’s not a hobby investment

They can be mutually exclusive

Overall it seems like a nice purchase for the pair. Vlad auto 10 alone is worth the purchase price you paid for both. I say well done.

I like him a lot, great hitter. I've always been a fan of pure hitter type guys. If I was a Mets fan I would collect him and enjoy doing it for cheap. Investing though? Probably not. He is a 27 year old rookie on the Mets with a few very good years in him and then probable decline.

as long as you enjoy it, thats all that matters when it comes to collecting!

Investment wise, I don’t think that is a good choice. His age if a factor and he doesn’t have the “superstar” status to increase his cards to make money.. BUT, if you like him so much, just buy his cards because it doesn’t matter how much his cards will be worth as long as you’re happy.

You're the man, Eric. No disrespect intended at all, honestly. But that's really not all that matters when it comes to collecting. Some people enjoy the idea of the investment aspect of collecting or enjoy making some money on guys down the road and proving themselves right. It's like mental small victories (and money obviously). Just because you collect a certain way doesn't mean that's the only way.

Its not that I like him so much.. Just think hes a good ballplayer and will have a few real good seasons coming up. Him being so cheap.. Would think he gets a pretty nice bump over the next couple years.

that's fair. i didnt want to come out bashing his pickup, as McNeil has as much hobby talent as Daniel Murphy

I like McNeil for my fantasy team and in real life baseball, but I don’t see his cards having much potential. I would say If you are looking for a guy like McNeil that is younger and may have more card potential look at Arraez on the Twins. He seems to swing for a high average like McNeil but is 5 years younger.

Hobby needs more of this mentality.

Mcneil is one of the greatest hitters I’ve ever seen. His bowman chrome autos sky rocketed last year. Definitely room to grow.
