Default Best Base Rookie of the Decade - Voting

This poll is for Blowout to decide what was the best Base Rookie Card of the decade.

By base rookie card, I'm referring to non-numbered, non patch/auto cards that fall in the 'mainstream' category.

The nominees were suggested by Blowout members on a previous thread.

**The criteria for this award is whatever YOU think makes a card the best rookie card of the decade. Vote with whatever you think is the most important criteria, whether it be how iconic the card is, how valuable, or just which card you like best.*****

The Nominees:

Anthony Davis 2012 Prizm

Kawhi Leonard 2012 Prizm

Giannis 2013 Prizm

Luka Doncic 2018 Optic

Luka Doncic 2018 Prizm

Zion Williamson 2019 Prizm

Some people are more impressed by Select. Lillard is the only player with base in 2012 and even though 3 tiered from 2014 - present day, it’s a brand that’s been around since 2012 so it should def get added.. plus luka Courtside is his best base card

The voting is very telling.

AD is the only card on the list (Zion doesnt count) that was not "cheap", day of release.

Same could be said of the Optic Base card listed here. Literally a .25 cent card even in big names before Luka craze these last few months.

Yeah and to your point I was picking up Luka Select Silver's at $25 a pop in September which wasn't even that long ago.

Giannis RC select's have been hot for a good bit though, I like the design but it's all personal preference and I've bought a ton of them over the years so there's definitely bias in that which I admit when it's the case.

I can’t believe the Zion Prizm made this list.

likewise, imo it also looks and feel more “premium” compared to the Prizm card. Also for lillard the select black 1/1 rc is one of his most important cards.. basically it’s his best card after the logoman, and if you don’t care for patch/logoman auto cards the select 1/1 is the holy grail

But this got nothing to do with what boxes cost in the thousands or what boxes cost nada.. it’s about what people’s opinions are on the best base cards

the selects sure have picked up. i paid $20 for my True Gem Select and $60 for my pair of PSA 10 Base & RWB Giannis Prizms back in 2014 i think it was

AD was never that cheap.

that was all im saying. This poll doesnt have Select in it, because the people offering up their opinions when the OP was gathering it, didnt suggest it

Sure, but people didnt care about the base cards then either (which is why the wax was so cheap)

I'd say it was the most hyped card of the decade, anyways.

The real reason is in case we look back on this in 10 years and he did pan out... wanted to at least include it.

I think TJ did just fine on the poll options.. Let's be real, Lillard select or Giannis select wouldn't win over Giannis prizm or the Luka prizm anyways.. They're great cards, no question. But in my opinion this is a 2 horse race, and from the early voting results looks to be one of the horses pulling ahead quickly..

I'm voting Luka prizm because these exploded in less than a year. Sure Zion mania has brought a lot f ppl back to this hobby but I feel like the Luka mania has a lot to do with it also. Can't go wrong voting for any of these on this poll though.

Still very much subject to change but as of today, it's the Giannis.

I vote Giannis because it changed the way I approach Prizm rookie base in general. There's no way I'm getting rid of base rookies for $1-2 early on now. I also like the design.

You could argue that it's the most important card of the decade for the hobby. Perfect combination of a red hot market coming off the Luka (and I'd throw in Mahomes) craze with a potential superstar that is very popular. If Zion busts all the new money that came into the hobby could be turned off by their large upfront losses and give up on the hobby.

Ben Simmons Prizm was a more important card.

Agree to disagree. It was popular, but Zion is on a whole different level. Zion has people not that interested in NBA cards going to targets/walmart and clearing the shelves. But I think Zion gets a huge boost because people saw how much could be made with Luka/Mahomes. Just my two pennies.

I think that this is the key that separates him from the other names in the pack. The generational hype tag. However, he has zero on his resume so the op's question leaves a lot to interpretation.

Yeah it would be nice if he actually played haha. But he has brought so much NEW money into this hobby from people that either left the hobby or are new to the hobby. All that extra money gets into their hands and they end up going on eBay and buying other players with it and suddenly they are hooked. Big for the hobby as a whole.

Indeed...the Zion rookie year frenzy is unlike any other on this list. But Giannis is clearly the best player in hindsight. 3-5 years from now we may get different poll results.

He’s not bringing new money. He’s bringing leeches. All that profit in FOTL and online releases that used to be put right back in the hobby isn’t anymore. It’s sad, but this is the reality.
