Default SGC Grading

With the current backup at PSA, I'm considering sending off some modern era cards to SGC for grading. I've been doing some research comparing grading fees for SGC to PSA (only $10/card for SGC submission with 20 day turnaround) and comparing resale value. I wanted to get some thought from you all on if sending to SGC is worth it, or if I should just deal with PSA delays or stick to selling raw?

I’ve thought about that too but SGC’s labels are just so amateurish. I may be alone here but I can’t stand the look of them.

I like the black border, but yeah I'm not really a huge fan of the label either

I love their slabs but do not like the new flips. Having said that, I've used them before and got great service and great turnaround. If the cards you're subbing are for resale, you may wanna stick with PSA, but if the cards are PC, then SGC slabs are great and I think you'll be happy.

Are your cards nearing what you think is peak resale value now or there is room to grow in the next 60-90 days? If max resale value in 25-30 days, then you may need to capitalize with SGC though actual resale value is quite less than PSA but you have to factor in the time it takes for the cards to get back to you and whether the peak resale value has passed. If the cards have additional room to grow in value over the next 60-90 days, then do PSA definitely as PSA's value is a lot higher than SGC. As for selling raw, that's related to the time factor too...kind of have to consult your crystal ball on what you think cards will be...raw resale value now, SGC 9.5/10 resale value in 25-30 days or PSA 9/10 resale value in 60-90 days.

I like how the flip has the full name of the card and the serial number.

The big two are on house arrest right now, in my opinion SGC is a totally reasonable alternative. And their times are less than a month, pretty sure BGS and PSA, can’t even come close to those numbers.

I prefer BGS for the subgrades.

Incompetence doesn’t help either.

I'm still interested in the digital grading service patents they filed a couple years back. I like SGC quite a bit but it fits my collection since they're the prewar preferred grader.

I’m another SGC supporter. I think their grading has been more consistent over the years (PSA cough PSA). Obviously they are a much bigger player in prewar and pre 1980, but I also really like the slab with the black gasket. Even the newer labels look good IMO.

I decided to go ahead and submit a small 7 card order. I'll have to update with the results when the grades come in

Got the email from SGC earlier that my cards have been graded and have been shipped back! Could not be happier with these grades! I'll make sure to post pics when they get here Saturday.

SGC may be the only TPG I actually still trust. I do not grade many cards (maybe 5-10 a year) and mostly all are vintage but from what I have seen they are spot on graders and may even be a bit on the conservative side with their grades. I have never had them miss their turnaround times and the best reason....the provide front and back scans of cards that you send for grading. I now have access to scans of the two cards I sent in three weeks ago, slabbed and ready to be sent back. I no longer have to wait for those cards to be returned and, while I have not investigated this, I believe all those scans are open and accessible to the public and not just the consignor (I need to reconfirm this so please don't take this as gospel yet).

For ten bucks you cannot beat the grading services, turn around times and the fact you get high quality scans of your submissions.

Serial number being logged is huge and would like to say I don't know why the others don't do it. But pretty sure we all know why.
