Default Jayson Tatum

Anyone else see the Celtics/Lakers game yesterday? Tatum was the best player on the court. Am I a biased Celtic fan or is this guy a couple years from a top 3 NBA player? Only 21 years old and very little weakness in his game.

Tatum and Mitchell are going to make 17-18 Optic Mega's go up in value....they've been stagnant for a very long time.

He's been killing it lately. It hasn't materialized in the hobby recently but I think it's just a matter of time. He just needs to keep doing his thing. Most people aren't really aware of how well he is playing. He's one of those guys that flies under the radar. Hopefully he can keep it up, I think he will. I've been tracking him pretty closely for the last 2 months. His confidence is sky high right now and he's playing differently. More attacking the rim instead of settling for midrange jumpers. That was always his biggest weakness his first 2 years, was ball control going to the rim. He would get stripped a lot. He's gotten stronger or changed his technique because he's much better now. Because he wasn't confident going to the rim he would just settle on the wing for 3's most of the time. Now he's bringing the ball down the court and playing a lot of iso. His stock is definitely rising.

I think he's more Paul George than those players listed. He can go off and does sometimes but you're waiting for him to do it every night. Once Kemba comes back he'll be taking the most shots and having the biggest moments of the playoffs in his hands.

See that's not true at all and where i disagree. That's where people are getting confnfused. People act like Kemba has been out for half a season or something. Tatum has been kicking azz for the last 2 months straight. With or without Kemba. He's leading the team in scoring. If you're a Celtics fan and watch every game you know what im talking about. I can see how outsider would think that though.

There was a level playing field there for awhile where 4 guys were all about equal. They had no leader. But Tatum has just gone up another level beyond those other guys. It's his team now.

That is a very sneaky draft class with Mitchell, Tatum, Bam, and Collins. I mean to get 4 above-average players isn't bad at all.

Exactly. People that don’t watch the Celtics don’t see that Kemba and Gordon are feeding Tatum at crunch time. They know they need him to take the jump if they are going to make it to the finals. The whole organization knows what his ceiling can be and he has the teammates that are willing to sacrifice their stats for his growth and development. Tatum, in turn, has been responding with big game after big game against some of the very best in the league. Basketball is a team game, but every championship team needs a killer. Kobe, Lebron, mj, curry, Kawhi, Durant, etc. Tatum is really closing the gap between himself and those mentioned. He has a ways to go, but the skill, desire and situation are there for him to succeed. The lakers starting doubling him if that tells you anything. Hint, hint, it should. And by the way, he’s still only 21.

I saw his silver prizm psa 10’s go from 400 prior to the Lakers game and now it is approaching 1000 in the aftermath.

He is looking legit, I regret unloading most of his stuff earlier in the season.

Yes. Based on that single lakers game yesterday, he is now a instant HOF. Based on that single performance he should win about 4 titles and 3 finals MVPs.

Incorrect. But, if you’ve watched his growth over the last three years, see how he’s being used and responding this season, one could see why you went there. Still 21. And yes, I understood your comment was /s. I guess people can’t be happy for a player maturing before our eyes on these forums.

Nice! I've got two cases of Optic Mega's myself....might bust a few and keep one case sealed. Got them cheap too!

Nobody is Lebron. That man had virtually no NBA learning curve and terrorized and dominated the east from the time he was 19.

Tatum seems to be following the most common growth curve where it takes them a good 2-3 seasons to figure out the game. Everyone wants instant results though.

That said, it's still a 'hot streak', and previous to this he was 22ppg on the season. Far from a bum, but his stats through these past 2 years very much place him in the upper middle pack of the NBA.

I think most are going to want to see a full season of this kind of production out of him.

It wasn't more than a few months back that there were still members on this forum debating whether Jaylen or Tatum was the better talent.

I still think it's Tatum by a mile. And if he somehow continues this kind of alpha production in the playoffs and leads them to the ECF, then I don't think there will be much of an argument.

I just need to see it over a sustained period (full season) and deep into the playoffs. Anyone who pays attention knows his skill set is about as robust as it gets, but he struggled to put it all together and do it consistently. I figured he’d end up as one of the perennial fringe All-Star guys who makes it 5-6 times but never really sets the league on fire.

I think top 3 is a stretch. We casually throw around top 3 or top 10 too often. I think in a couple years you’re looking at Giannis/Luka/other, and I don’t really think Tatum is that guy, but I do believe he can be a franchise player for a perennial contender if he can keep it going.

(not) glad I sold 40 of them for $30 each when he was trending way down last year.

Kawhi/PG13 is the right overly optimistic comparison. Tatum is not the Lebron/Luka/Giannis/Zion type. He's not going to give you 10 assists a night or bully his way in the paint. What he can do is be a lethal 2 way force when he's locked in. Obviously he'll need to accomplish a ton more to become the second coming of Kawhi, but I do see certain similarities in their game...including their very solid midrange.

Im happy for the player he is becoming. But based on 1 game to claim top 3 in NBA is a far stretch. Im just saying. Imagine if we could all forecast greatness on a single night of play?

Top 3 in the next couple years is not an easy task to accomplish. If he could even crack the top 10 i would be thrilled. There's still a lot of basketball left to be played this year. If he continues to play at the same level along with the rest of their supporting cast i like the Celtics chances against anyone. I think they have a very good chance of getting to the ECF this year. They're lacking a star big man, but they're really solid. I don't know if they could hang with the Bucks in a 7 game series but i would like to see. The Celtics are going to be very very good as long as they keep that unit together. A deep playoff run would certainly elevate his hobby value and i think we could see it this year.

He's looking really, really good. I thought he could have taken a leap like this in his 2nd year but it didn't happen.
