Default Picked Up An MJ Fleer Rookie Yesterday—Predictions on Grade

Predictions on grade assuming it isn’t altered? Only thing is I may not be able to get it graded for many months since PSA and BGS are currently not operating. May possibly do SGC for the first time since they are still open.

Looks like a solid 8, 9 if they are feeling nice.

I feel PSA has been more strict lately, I've noticed my grades coming in much lower than what I expected on the last couple batches. I wouldn't be surprised to see it come back a 7 or 8

Just curious, where did you get a raw one that you actually trust? Thanks.

Good question, but they are out there. I just watched a recent entire box break of 86 Fleer. Box was certified from BBCE also. Crazy box, had x5 Barkley rookies in it also, the breaks typically yeild 3 per, and some cards get a 4th.

As for the card in the thread, it's real. Border overlapping is present.

Assuming it's real, I'd say an 8 easily

Those giving grades, what are the flaws?
Centering and right edge on front?

Corners aren’t perfect, and the edges aren’t either. Overall good shape though.

Great card, this will likely come back as a 7 or maybe a 7.5 on a good day. Centering is the biggest killer for me, but I also think I see a print spot on the nameplate area and then obviously a touch of white on all four corners. Again awesome card though!

Here is my 7 for reference:

My guess is a beautiful 7 based on the corners and top/bottom centering. Beautiful card, congrats on the pickup!

this may be worth a review, as it was slabbed before half point grades existed

great looking card!

Very nice looking card. With most, solid 7-8 range would be my guess as well.

I'm calling for 8.5. If it was just pack pulled, then no surface imperfections. Looks like one fish eye, but it is small and hidden in the crowd. No snow. VERY nice.

Is this card in your private set registry inventory?

Flaws
Corners
Centering
Fisheye in blue bottom nameplate
Might squeak out a 7, 6 wouldn’t surprise me
Don’t kid yourself when you grading, just leads to diappointment

Agree with this. Most likely a 7...could be a 6-6.5. PSA is stricter on surface conditions than BGS #narrative. Still a wonderful card.

You’re not alone. PSA has been very tough of late. Tons of 7’s and 8’s for me too. I used to get almost all 10’s and a few 9’s sprinkled in.

OP - I’d send to BGS. Could pull a BGS 9. PSA will give you a 7 on this. I just received back my MJ Fleer RC from BGS that was in much worse condition. It got an 8. Yours is better all around.

Same here. I was just in a group sub that 18 of 57 came back PSA 10. I had 11 in another. 4 got PSA 10. I expected 6-7 to gem.

Picked up in a Facebook group. I pick up raw ones fairly often online. Bought a raw for $1030 2 years ago. Came back a PSA 8. I just met a guy online who bought 3 ungraded packs at a card show for $900 each. Pulled an MJ and sent to BGS. Graded 9.5. I’ll try to find pics.

I may do that when they reopen. PSA sure has been tough lately.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I am currently selling a PSA 4 to pay for this one. I paid $1500 for this one. Also picked up an 84-85 sealed Bulls team bag today on Facebook.
