Hey everyone, ran into my first alleged PWE scam ever. This past Friday/Saturday I Sold a couple crappy rookie cards of some crappy Knicks kid from this years rookie class for like 9 bucks to MvpBrady12 on eBay. This Monday his cards got shipped out along with everyone else’s and messages were sent about packages being mailed and he was cool with it.

Yesterday, three days after they were shipped off, when positive feedback from others starts creeping in, he says that the cards haven’t arrived and that they’re probably lost and that he just wants a refund. Even uploaded a picture of an empty mailbox as “proof”. Asked him to just hold out a bit longer, as mail is probably taking a few more days to get to it’s destinations. In 1000+ PWEs over the years I’ve been lucky and never really had one not show up so I wasn’t sure how to go about all of this.

Another message today and another empty mailbox pic as “proof”. I informed him I would gladly shoot him a refund next week, after I contacted my local post office and police department to file the mail as lost/stolen.

Then I get a barrage of unsolicited messages before I could even figure out how to go about this: “Please do like I asked, that would make things a whole lot easier.” “I only bought two cards from you.” “Just refund me in a timely manner would be nice thanks as I paid you in a timely manner.” “You know what people like you make it hard to buy from eBay. I’ll just let eBay give me my money back.” “Look at my feedback you think I would do anything shady ? I’ve had positive feedback since I started with eBay. Come on now!” “Where even was the tracking on your little envelope?”

The last sentence made me laugh outloud. He said ‘was’ and called it a little envelope. Block, and Avoid this dude all around!

SOunds like the one who told me he did not get the PWE because I misspelled his name on the address. My response was if you did not get it how did you know if I misspelled your name or not. Never heard another word from him.

Yep, that's the nail in the coffin for me. Wanting a refund after 3 days sets off an alarm bell, but he nailed the coffin closed himself.

I don’t recall a single day in the last 20 years where I had absolutely NOTHING in my mailbox on a given day (non holiday or Sunday). Even on those extremely rare days where there is no true mail I’ll still get flyers/brochures/misc advertisements. This guy had not one but two consecutive days with nothing?

Methinks you are dealing with 13-15 year old kid who is going out of his way to prove he’s being truthful and truly believes a pic of an empty mailbox does just that.

Go to Facebook and message Ebaty for business it may take a while, but given the fact you told him to file a claim and he refused to do so and he made several messages about it there is a chance you may get the negs removed. It really depends on what rep you get.

Only thing negs really hurt though are your feelings. Usually its the buyers who are truly scamming you that will try to use them against you. Most buyers know they do happen.

I never even told him to file a claim, he was just lying. I told him that ~I need to file a claim with my PO and Police on Monday and that I would refund them the second that eBay confirmed they got the care information from me.

Would not have done that, that is just begging for a neg. I would have told him to file a claim through Ebay so that there is a record of the claim on file. YOu sent it PWE there is no need to comment about police reports and such as they are not going to do anything anyway. Neither will the post office since there was no insurance on the items. That is the risk of sending PWE, even though it was clear he was playing games.

Live and learn. Already have two more “I think I need a refund cuz there’s no cards yet” messages from cards bought and sent out on Wednesday. I’m just done.

Just let them know that it has only been 2 business days since they were shipped with Easter and the other issues across the country shipping times could take longer. If it has not arrived by next Wednesday you will be happy to issue a full refund just file a non-receipt claim on Ebay so I can ensure it is on record and the refund is properly credited to you.

Another thing I have learned DO NOT ship basketball cards PWE. I would say 90% of my PWE issues I have ever had involved basketball cards.

I asked nicely in a couple sentences if I sent the refund now he would take the negatives off

“Stop with that story . you sent without tracking . Contact eBay if want to get the feedback taken off . Play the violin with them. I am done .”

Did he actually say if you refund he will remove the neg? I don't think I would refund anything since he negged you unless he actually opens a claim.

If he did then I would not refund a thing and would report him for feedback extortion.

No he didn’t say that. I just asked nicely but he wants to teach me a lesson about how to do ebay right. Or whatever. He opened a case after the negatives.

One bit of advice if you are going to ship PWE you should state it. Your listings says first class PACKAGE that is not PWE even though they are sent first class its implies the item will be sent with tracking.

I was advised to not advertise PWE as it attracts the scammers. When it comes to eBay it’s lose-lose situation with the ridiculous buyer protections.
