Default When Basketball Idiots Do Baseball

Time to dig out your 2012-2014 Prizm unlicensed gabage, because it's now more valuable than Chrome!

This is insanity Acuna non licence stuff is competing with his licence stuff price wise. Someone is inflating and manipulating the market and playing people for fools.

I tried to get into basketball, but the prices just terrified me, so I had to stop.

As far as the 2012 Prizm going for more than the 2012 TC, here’s why I believe it is happening:

1) It is the first year of Prizm
2) The TC card from 2012 is horizontal
3) The TC card from 2012 has Trout, Trumbo and Torii Hunter
4) Prizm is an action shot of Trout that was done well and does not look out of place with no logos
5) casual collectors are priced out of Trout RCs, so an attractive 2nd year is next
6) maybe a small portion of the jump is Bkb coming over to baseball, but not enough to justify the big hike.

Just my thoughts.

Another baseball card elitist thread.

Derek Jeter. Top 5 player in baseball card hobby the last 30 years. Most valuable ungraded rookie? 1992 Little Suns Auto (unlicensed). Oh and also the 92' Jeter Front Row Auto Rc (unlicensed).

Ivory tower down. You missed the boat on 2012 Prizm. Go look for the next.

Elitist to not like no team, generic-looking, airbrushed cards? And using cards from 28 years ago as your main argument? I'm sorry baseball card collectors hurt you.

Yeah there's alot of airbrushing and generic-looking crap from 2012 Prizm Baseball compared to 2012 Prizm Basketball and Football.

Lol what? Was this actually written?

You do realize 2012 Prizm baseball has no MLB logos right?

That guy has been pumping 2012 Prizm nonstop across this board and said he had "invested" in it, best to ignore him.

That doesn't mean it's airbrushed.
Yes, it does not have a logo. See Jeters above.
I made this point to bbases in another thread and he started ignoring, bumbling, and fumbling around.

It's a beautiful looking card.
I'm buying them and looking to buy more.
If you don't like them then sell yours to me. You guys likely didn't buy them and missed the boat and now that these cards are selling for more than your cards you're upset and trying to knock it down.

Here's a better topic for this thread:
"I'm starting a thread to complain about what other people are interested in buying. Then i'm going to label them as baseball card know-nothings"

Just imagine saying that out loud. It's arrogant and gross.

No he doesn't. OP couldn't have wished for a better class representative. An "investor" without fundamental knowledge of the investments.

It literally does. The helmet and arm patch logos were airbrushed over. Liking whatever you like is fine, but you don't need to lie about it to others or yourself.

Zach do you think this is market manipulation?
I feel that a lot of the people on facebook /ebay 'riding the wave' see that once the hype dies down on certain guys (Jordan, Pippen, the base card bs), they just jump to the next superstar and claim it's rare and hard to find and ask a high price and now that's the market for.
There's just no rhyme or reason to it, other then
1 - sports cards are a 'investment' as made known by Gary V - so many people look to him and now are a 'flipper' and wants to maximize profit.
Oh but I collect cards. No , no you don't you trade them like stocks.

2 - this player is 'x' good and the set is 'x' rare , false accusations of hype and rarity on stuff. People stating that sets are hard to come by, or a limited amount when so much is printed - Fleer metal , prizm, optic base cards of lebron etc going for 10 - 200$.

3 - the average collector just getting into it or who doesn't follow a lot, sees the sales and asking prices and thinks that these cards which were worth 10-25% before of what they are now - basketball and baseball - think it's justified and follow suit.

4 - grading is a way to make $2 into $20. So many people are grading now because all they see is quick $ so they backlog anything from base cards to junk stuff to make a quick flip $$. People think a card is worth x, then usually the first thing they go to is " WHAT WOULD IT GRADE?" and make a post.
If you wanna grade the dang thing - just send it in, quit debating what grade or a turnaround time - I get it you want more $$.

Just my .02 from watching countless people on FB and here. People's greed has really taken off in this last month with the Jordan and base card pump - which is finally fallen back down as quick as it went up. I stated this many times to people and they called me out on it .

Can you point to examples of cards that have come back down? I don't follow the basketball market but I'm interested after seeing people mention this in every thread

Exactly. They're all so wise. If you haven't been on here for 5+ years and had 1000+ posts about $10 base topps rookies (licensed of course) you just wouldn't understand.

Can you guys simply make a list of cards the rest of us should buy? It would make things alot easier.

I have never seen someone so up in arms about the reality that no one wants a card with no logos or team name

Case in point - a base card, which there was printed a LOT of and yes many people hold Jordan stuff. but -

The 1998-99 Jordan fleer metal universe card was up to $700 at one point this month, now they are back around $150-$200.

It was a originally $20-$30 card for a while, then gained some heat this last year and went up to $50-$60.. then talk about the last dance, and then boom all the sudden it's super "rare and valuable" and $300+.

Scottie pippin and Rodman rookies 3 - 4 x average sales for years on end , have come back down..
Sure many cards of star guys and HOF players key cards, rookies, true rare cards, inserts etc, can gain over time, but it's usually as anything, a slow and steady pace - because for one - they aren't playing anymore.

I don't understand how people don't see something doesn't add up - price hikes like that don't sustain.
