Question Will we ever see Emmitt Smiths all-time rushing record broken?

With this day and age running backs just don’t last as long.

Do you think we will ever see Emmitt Smiths All-Time rushing record of 18,355 ever broken?

Frank Gore and Adrian Peterson are the only two active players in the top 5 but aren’t anywhere close to it.

What do you all think?

Not the way the game is evolving, no.

I liked Emmitt. I’m ok with him having the record.

If Gore or AP were closer they might have a chance, but I don't think there is any chance it will happen given the shorter lifespan of RB's careers, the more dual back systems teams use, and with how much they catch the ball out of the backfield now.

Better chance in the expanded season and spread offenses to eventually see Rice's record broken.

I think Emmitt is safe unless the game drastically changes.

Why because Barry was better??? Or was it because Barry carried a pitiful Lions team on his back for over 10 years??? Or was it because Emmitt held on too long to pad his stats??? All are false.

Are you smoking crack laced with sherm? You really think Lamar Jackson can rush for over 18,000 yards?

If you take djdevon's post at face-value, this man would still have the record. Not sure what Barry Sanders has to do with this discussion.

I kid of course. Personally, I'd rather see Payton own this record for all time.

Lamar Jackson is 23 old. If he rushing 1200 next 20years = 24000 yards. Now the league can't tackle here or there you never know next 20 years gonna be like.

To the playoffs and a win. He didn't even need to cheat to do it. It has been 62 years since the Lions have won a championship. From 1958-1988 the Lions made the playoffs 3 times in 31 years, won 1 division and won 0 playoff games. In Sanders 10 seasons, the Lions made the playoffs 5 times, won 2 divisions and won 1 playoff game. In the 21 seasons since, the Lions have made the playoffs 4 times, won 0 division titles and 0 playoff games. Who knows how many Super Bowl rings he would have if he had decided to be a cheater.

Nope - and probably the career total yards from scrimmage record as well as the career total receiving yards will never be broken even in this era. Both held by Jerry Rice. This question had me go down a rabbit hole... Crazy to see Fitz still over 6,000 yards away and Julio Jones going into his 10th season still over 11,000 yards away. Put that in perspective; Julio would have to average over 1,000 yards a season for another 10 years in order to grab that record - wow. He'd be on year 19 season.

Also didn't realize how close CMC came to the single season total yards from scrimmage mark; 2,392 vs CJ2k's 2,509. Probably the more relevant record in today's game with how much they are used out of the backfield.
