I’m not the only one kicking myself. Break boxes or sit on them? Who knew Prizm blasters and NBA Hoops hobbies would inflate the way they did. I probably brought three Prizm blasters and a big box for $30 in January of this year. The word was getting out and Walmart finally ran out of basketball cards(stopped stocking). I went to every Target in my city and to the the locations within a 20 mile radius. Luckily I was doing Uber/Lyft and had a excuse to travel to neighboring towns and cities. Every once in a while I would get lucky and find a Donruss box at Target. I just can’t pay $130-$150 for a blaster while staring at that $19.99 label at the top right corner of the box. Donruss Optic inaugural year of 2016 hobby box are steadily climbing too. Hopefully Walmart and Target will continue to do business with Panini and keep the prices low. Unfortunately this NBA draft class is not looking to good but you never know what players will be drafted from Fiba.

Unless there is some kind of binding contract, I don't get why they would leave it at that. They are leaving tons of money on the table. They can double the price and it will still sell out.

Maybe, maybe not. Most likely though, is you’ll be able to find them anywhere between $69.99-$129.99 on the secondary market depending on product

I think it will be easier to find them. Maybe not super easy because Prizm and Optic boxes have basically become like money printed and stocked on the shelves. Trade a $20 bill and double your money. Brings out all the creatures of the night. The word is out now though gonna be hard to slow that train down. It's like a swarm of moths attracted to bright light at nighttime.

I completely understand the lack of big names in the draft but it's not all about that. There is plenty of product, it's just a matter of acquiring it. If you can't get any then you can't get any. |

Melo needs to be 10x better than Vince Carter for Griffin's prices to sustain.

You say that, but we literally have no sports right now and honestly no path yet to sports in the United States and wax has never been hotter. People are stalking reps for Prizm Draft Picks football. Select baseball is selling out. Mosaic is 8 grand a case! If you think this immediately reverts back to the old days you're crazy.

This trend has already started across all sports a year or so ago. For instance, Bowman blasters have gone from 8 packs to 6 packs. Instead of a 25% price raise that people will notice, they do a 33% raise that most don't catch (or care about as much). |

Every year someone always has a breakout than pricing goes nuts for the guy.

With the relatively weak draft class but heightened interest in the hobby, my guess is Panini will flood Walmart and Target with overprinted basketball blasters at $19.99 (maybe $21.99 for Prizm and Optic) to meet demand coming from long-time collectors (who have threatened to leave the hobby), returning hobbyists (who have the potential to grow the hobby long-term), and short-term flippers (who generate buzz for better or worse) while at the same time pushing a never before seen amount of FOTL/Choice/Premium/Hybrid with highly attractive and rare veteran inserts to keep things interesting for sealed wax collectors and breakers. Typical MBA sandwich strategy. Or should I say NBA?
Either way, Prizm and Optic will probably be tough to find again because ESPN will manage to successfully hype up 1 or 2 guys from the draft (especially Wiseman, Lavar's middle son, and the international guys) after which FOMO will ensue. I don't think you'll see guys driving to every Walmart within a 3 hour radius this time around, but you can bet guys will clear Prizm if they see a reload at their local store. Hoops might not go extinct, but it will definitely be endangered in the wild. |

I bet they sell out at msrp, people hoard, group breaking through the wazoo etc
You're not going to go from 10x markup on 2019 to '20-21 retail Prizm sitting on the shelves one season later unless there are larger outside factors involved. I bet Melo Ball's Prizm Silver sells for over $200 on day 1 |

Well Mosaic retail is $19.99. Unfortunately the bots brought them out at Walmart and Target online. I was almost a victim to paying $110 plus shipping for two blasters. Nah

I hope so. This whole high price point is not sustainable. At some point people would have to consider other things to buy instead of the high price of hobby boxes.

Prices will come down a bit on resell, because they will be without a $700 Raw Silver, converted into a potential $2000 graded PSA 10, to propel Blasters to over $100 on the resell market.
But every year, there’s always one guy that breaks out and emerges as a star in the making. Whether that happens right away at the beginning of the season or in his 2nd or 3rd year, that won’t stop people from hoarding boxes and taking a longer term view, because statistically, holding sealed wax of Marquee products (Prizm, Optic, etc.) will end up paying off in the end. Some flippers sell off immediately and others hold for longer term horizons. Despite the possibility of a more serious economic crisis than people think, there will always be people with the cash flow to buy up everything on the shelf, with no expectation to immediately resell it. But to be honest, Panini doesn’t need strong draft classes to sell out anymore and have highly coveted products. With tons of inserts and parallels of Stars going for big money, coupled with 2nd Year cards of Zion and Ja (if he continues to solidify himself as a star), I don’t expect anything to change. Once you start getting used to hoarding and buying up the whole display, I don’t see how the people that do that can just walk by the shelf and overlook it. Instead of Blasters being resold for $45-$50 off the bat, maybe they come down to $35. 2020-21 is going to be a year for collectors to focus on singles and circling back to other years draft classes. 17-18 (Tatum, Mitchell, maybe even another Fox pump and dump?), 18-19 (Luka, Trae) and 19-20 (Zion, Ja). Will probably be another big wave of money going into vintage/90’s, and big prices for parallels of non-rookie year Stars. That’s how I see it taking shape. |

No matter what they are priced at, I probably won't even see them on shelves anyway. Never seen any past releases of anything. Someone must live in the card aisle.

They will be $19.99.
The resellers will scoop them all up, expecting the same resale value as this year's products. Many will sell for far more than $19.00 on the secondary market upon release. People will rush to grade the key RCs, temporarily creating an artificial demand as investors on Social Media & Youtube proclaim "invest now". Prices on the secondary market will eventually stabilize and then drop unless there is a clear breakout rookie or two. Mediocre rookies, no matter how artificially inflated can't sustain prices long term if prices don't match performance. Many resellers will move on to something else, as will many investors. Product becomes less difficult to obtain in stores again. Resale market collapses. Just my opinion. |

I hate the notion that buyers are "forced" to buy wax at a premium. People have a choice not to buy wax. Just because it is the going rate doesn't mean people have to buy it.
I don't understand the "need" to bust wax. If there is disposable income and there is a willingness, then I somewhat understand. But the word "forced" is ludicrous. |

Remember how the 2013 draft class was a joke? And then there was Giannis.
People will find a way to hype 2020-21 wax.
