Default 2020 Upper Deck Marvel Anime

Saw on my FB feed just now. I love Marvel, I love anime, I love this. Looks like a fun set to collect and put together.

This does look like a fun set. The fact they are doing a Kaiju subset means we will get a bunch of cool Marvel Monsters... likely even FFF!

Here is Devil Dinosaur’s Kaiju card

This could be a really fun set, I hope it's a reasonable MSRP.

This set looks cool and fun... I just hope a decent price point. Only 1-2 sketches per case is a bummer though.

Around $80-85/box retail seems likely.

This does look like a fun new brand for Marvel cards, especially in the design possibilities of all the inserts.

I had to look up Hanafuda, the cards printed on black stock. From Wikipedia:

Quote:
“Hanafuda (花札) are Japanese playing cards that are used to play a variety of games. Hanafuda translates to "flower cards". The name also refers to games played with the cards.”
Here’s what they say at UnmissableJapan:

Quote:
“Eventually the hanafuda cards emerged in the late 18th century. What made them stand out is that they’re a hybrid of traditional Japanese and Western styles. Like the European hombre cards, there are 48 cards that can be divided into twelve groups of four, but unlike European cards they have pictures instead of numeric values. This meant that they couldn’t be used for most of the gambling games that were popular at the time, allowing them to escape an official ban.

“By this time, the relentless government bans had taken their toll on the popularity of card games, so hanafuda didn’t take off in a big way. This all changed in 1889, when Nintendo was founded specifically for the purpose of producing Hanafuda cards. (Yes, the same company that later produced the Game Boy and the Wii – but they didn’t produce anything other than playing cards until the 1960s.) Nintendo’s cards sold well, but were mainly used for gambling, which remained illegal. Hanafuda cards thus gained a strong association with the Yakuza gangsters who ran the gambling parlours, and many Yakuza have tattoos based on designs from hanafuda. Even today, hanafuda are strongly associated with crime and the underworld, a taint that deters many respectable Japanese people from playing with them.”

There’s much more to read at the above link.

Here’s Peach Momoko’s Instagram page, for a look at some recent comic covers and commission pieces: peachmomoko60.

Nintendo was originally a Hanafuda playing card company that moved into video games. They released a Mario Hanafuda card set for Nintendo Rewards members a few years back that you can find on Ebay.

Ouch, I hope not. Where did you hear that?

With only 1-2 sketches per case I don't see myself paying too much for this, even though I absolutely love the content. The Artist Autograph "hit" per box is neat, but doesn't seem too enticing.

I think MAP is going to be about $95.

I think the base look awesome. I hope they number the autos.

Wonder if mean 8 box case , like flair. So might be possibly be like 3-4 sketches per 16 box case.

Looks like pre-order pages have been posted at BO and competitors

Follows the same 8-box inner case and 16-box case that many recent releases have followed. Prices are approx. $90 per box

Where the sell sheet mentions sketch cards it says "Search for 1-of-1 Sketch Cards drawn by Peach Momoko". Is it possible all the sketch cards are drawn by her? Or am I reading it wrong?

No chance....other artists have shown off sketches already on their social media. Would be nice though!

Sorry my friend. We have a group on Facebook where peach and other artist will be posting their work soon enough. MCCW is the name of the group. If I see anything I will link you to it.

Just bumping this already established Marvel Anime thread so we don’t have two threads going for this one set. And ... to answer the other threads question... I am looking forward to cracking my 2 hobby boxes next week for sure!

The sketches from this set should do very well. Even artists who aren't the best at likenesses could have a field day with this one.

Just waiting for the checklist at this point.
