Default Anyone else having bad eBay experiences?

Not sure if this should go here, but curious if it's something happening with the uptick in cards skyrocketing. Sold the same card twice in the last week and a half. Both times I had to open cases and both times unpaid item strikes were given. I've only had to ever open 3 cases prior to this in my whole eBay 'career'. What is going on?!

/end rant

Not necessarily. In this case it's a 2013 card. So, I'm not sure what kind of buyer's remorse there would be.

Wow! Ya - figured it is a “hot rookie” or something... wonder if someone else is auctioning the same card and wanted to create a false sense of price / demand?

The card has sold previously for $50-75...for me- the first time it sold for 45 or so, and now it sold for 30. So, unless someone is trying to bring the price down, I don't know ... may just have to post it for sale here on BO, as typically the easiest to deal with on here.

had two guys within seconds of winning separate auctions message me saying they need to cancel the auction because they bid by mistake

yeah right
classic case of trying to pump up an auction since they probably had similar card and wanted to inflate prices but ended up winning

i had no other choice but to give in and drop it
didn't want to risk bad blood and have them do crap to my other auctions

Yeah, the second buyerh ad 0 feedback, so I'm curious if there's any relation to the first one. Unfortunately, I don't remember the shipping addresses- if they were similar or not. I just hate that eBay makes you wait 5 days until you can finally close a case. A person should have to pay within 24 hours. I would never buy an item and wait 2 days to pay...if I want the item, I want it shipped ASAP.

I only did it auction-style both times, as I had it up for a bit with OBO (fairly priced) and saw nobody was buying. The problem now is if I list it a third time, people may bid lower since the last two sold were mine..

Due to all negative Ebay experiences I've been reading about lately I'm holding off on listing any cards there for the moment to avoid the headache.

I've had no issues buying. Then again, I won't buy from anyone with low / bad feedback.

Yep. Just, sometimes a card may garner more attention there versus on the BST here..I definitely agree with buying only from people with positive feedback. The first guy who purchased the card actually had bad feedback left as a 5 star comment. I knew when I saw that I was not going to get paid. The second guy had 0 feedback. I wish there was some kind of way eBay could prevent buyers with 0 feedback from bidding, but at some point we all have/had 0 feedback.

I've been on eBay since 1999. I have had one bad experience as a seller. In the past week I got someone doing a BS return and an offer/failure to pay. I'm thinking about just pulling the handful of cards I have up.

Problem bidders occur at about 1 in every 2 to 300 buyers for me. The truth is people only talk about the negative transactions and forget about the hundreds maybe thousands of transactions that go off on Ebay daily without a hitch. If a few speed bumps are going to make you stop selling then maybe online selling is not for you.

I’ve sold tens of thousands of cards and can really only remember 1 really bad experience. Returns are annoying, but part of the risk you run with eBay.

I mean it’s a hassle, but do you really not want to sell on eBay because of non paying buyers and returns? It’s the scams that are a problem like getting a different card than you sent in a return

I just had a card I won cancelled. Made an offer, went back and forth a few times, won it. Paid instantly. 12 hours later cancelled. Seller had a few negs already, and they got another one from me.

Maybe a handful per year. Just deal with it and move on. I had one card sold and returned twice LOL. Third time was a charm.

A skyrocket in prices in the matter of weeks then a deluge of back outs and non payments? People are actually surprised by this?

Without a doubt the frequency of buyers who suddenly have lost their ability to read simple words have increased in the past few months. New buyers are jumping into the fray and making purchases thinking they've scored a steal only to find seconds later the words they thought they saw in the listing description have magically disappear. It's frustrating but nothing you can do about it except to cancel, relist and move on with your life (seller perspective - as a long time buyer, I've never asked to cancel a purchase).

I’m having a card end at auction tonight for the 3rd time. The previous 2 bidders failed to pay. One replied that he received a recently-purchased card in bad shape and wanted to take a break from eBay (oh, please). It’s not a Project 2020.

That is not just cards. Any seller who sells enough seems to have cursed items. I had a vintage cap I finally sold last month that had been sold and relisted 4 times due to non-payment. But again these are just odd situations.

At end of the day I would rather have a buyer not pay or cancel than have them pay and then have the ball in their court. Its a much bigger headache.

There will be spillover from the 2020 debacle. I'm sure there are zero people on this forum who made any mistakes :eyeroll:

but it's not just crazy "hot" cards that are the problem...when people liquidate, they liquidate everything. I don't do a lot of selling (and I have done zero on eBay in 10 years), but I never had any issues with anything until the past 2 weeks where 80% of everything I've sold has run into some kind of issue. I am so thankful I dont sell cards for a living. Between the over-levered buyers and the hilarious (lack of) balance of power between buyers and sellers, I dont know how anyone deals with it.

I've also rarely had ANY negative experiences. As I stated earlier, I had only a couple of previous NPB cases opened. I don't think I'll stop selling, I just will start to only place BIN OBO and have immediate payment due.

As a buyer, I've rarely had bad experiences- and only then it's just been late shipments. As a seller, I rarely sell on eBay- maybe 20-50 items per year..I wanted to hop back into it, as it's a lot easier to garner offers and such on eBay than here. It's just with this one card, unfortunately, people are buying and not paying.

I actually have never had anyone ask to return any card. It's just the non paying buyers. I sell mostly older cards (2008-2018)...as such, the cards I sell aren't the Tatis', Guerrero's, and Dominguez's- which baffles me more as to why people wouldn't want to pay..

The only reason I'm not cancelling is because I don't want to get any negatives. I'm entirely curious as to whether the second buyer is simply the first buyer who's upset that I opened a case against him.. lol.

Wow- that's annoying!

It's a 2013 football card. Not a 2020 Dominguez- that's what I'm surprised about..there's not much room for seller remorse, as it's literallly a 30-50 dollar card, not a 1200$ Trout Auto.

Exactly, I've also never asked to cancel a purchase, nor have I ever returned any card. I am only paying for, or bidding on a card, that I truly want either for my PC or to invest in.

I also rarely sell, but because of this 'trend', as soon as I am eligible to open a case, I open a case. I don't send 500 invoices. I send one invoice, one message, and then as soon as I can- I open the case and hope the person won't pay, as I don't want to deal with continuing problems.

I don't send invoices unless I need to edit it for one reason or another or messages. just file the case and move on.
