Yes, if everybody thinks the Patriots are dead because Tom Brady left.

Brady is what made that team run. I think stidham will be decent but that doesn’t mean the pats won’t be garbage. The team has glaring needs and I dont expect the pats to be good next year.

It can't be a sleeper if everyone already knows about him and his prices are already high.

Will he have anyone to throw to? That offense was so bad last year with Brady at QB. I just don’t see it as a good spot for someone cutting their teeth.

Patriots are dead. I dont see a Stidham to Neal becoming the next dynamic duo. Whoe else do they have on offense? The NFL isnt a ground and pound league anymore. That worked because Tom Brady was the QB. GL.

Sleeper implies cheap prices. His prices are not cheap.

Based on new hobby prices, they might be considered cheap.

A "sleeper" would be Brian Lewerke because A) Stidham isn't good and B) Hoyer is an old man.

You can't be a sleeper if your Prizm already sells for $150 to $200 (slabbed)

I'm not saying Lewerke is an actual sleeper, he isn't as an UDFA probably, but that's what qualifies as a sleeper since the starter has no legit performance to date.

I wouldn't call Daniel Jones a sleeper. He just turned 23, is the starting QB for the Giants, and threw a respectable 24 tds to 12 ints last year.

And Stidham's stuff sells for about as much as Jones.

One can argue that he turned Cassell into a starter. Granted he became exposed later. He did have a good year with NE and then a few more right after with Kansas City. Also, Jimmy G was developed in NE.

I don't know much about Stidham. I do know as long a Belicheck is there, the Pats will be fine. I expect a drop off from Brady, obviously, but I wouldn't put it past them to still win the division.

This rhetoric is so old.
The difference between a great starter in the NFL and a bad starter is 5 wins. Most teams get 10-12 wins. Great QB play is responsible for 5 of those. Bad teams get 5-7 wins without great QB play 90% of the time. The difference between 2007 and 2008 patriots? 16-0 and one play from a Super Bowl win vs 11-5 and missed the playoffs.

Yeah, Cassell was the difference.

I think the Pats will do well bc that defense is stout. The offense has to improve over last years horrendous effort.

Nowhere did I claim Cassell is anywhere close to Brady. I am saying Belicheck developed him enough to land a big free agent contract and he had a few good years. I don't think he would have ever been a starter anywhere if he didn't get in with the Pats. I also thinking you are over simplifying the difference between records in two years. Yes, QB play is very important, but every team is going to win/lose a game or two just based on luck and circumstance - how the schedule falls, injuries, random breaks in games via bad calls/turnovers/not turnovers, etc.

This year will be very interesting for the Pats and Bucs. Of course, this will be the main NFL story line all year. Bucs have better offense weapons, worse defense, and a togher division. Their records will be compared and dissected every week.

I am with you. The Pats will fall back to early Brady formula. Play tough defense and don't ask the QB to do too much. Pats offense relies on a lot of pick plays/short passes. As long as Stidham can dissect that pre-snap, he will be alright. Brady's biggest strength is that he was so good at knowing where to go with the ball and getting it out fast. Pats will have to keep it simple at the beginning for Stidham until he can build up experience.

This situation is so intriguing bc the draft was loaded with qbs and NE decided (for now) Stidham and Hoyer will do. I have a hard time imagining BB would take the foot off the gas when he's what just 50ish wins away from the all time record?

I figured Stidham would've been back to backup by now. I'm going to have a hard time unloading everything by the time the season starts bc what if he actually does work here and succeeds? Would be one of the most obvious hindsight moves of all time if he does..."what were we thinking BB not being one step ahead of everyone???" would surprise no one at all come November.

With that being said I cannot believe he's in the driver's seat rn.

I quoted you bc the build up of “why you should invest in pats backups” always leads to Cassel.
There wasn’t a single season the Patriots lost 5 more games than the prior season in 20 years, except for the season they lost brady to a knee injury. That’s not a coincidence. That is a major drop off in QB play.
Cassel has one successful season after his “successful” 08 year.
Jimmy G has had 1.3 successful seasons and after the super bowl the rumors were flying that he was gone and he was the reason they didn’t win.
Jacoby Brissett is going to be a blip.
Why do people think the Patriots are a QB factory? They obviously are not that.
The 90s Packers were the only real QB factory with Favre, Hasselbeck, and Brunell with an Aaron Brooks kicker. Following up with Rodgers after Favre too.
