(2) 1998 Skybox e-X2001 Box BreakS

Hey all,

Have two 1998 Skybox e-x2001 boxes coming in the mail today and am planning to break them. Figured this a nice change up from all the new wax being posted here. I’ll post the break up as I rip. Hopefully we can beat the odds and hit an Essential Credential.

Well, I beat the odds on these, just unfortunately didn't beat the odds with any of the Essential Credentials. Here are the highlights:

Box 1:
Autographics (1:48): Mark Bruener
Helmet Heroes (1:24): Fred Taylor
Stardate 2001 (1:12): Antowain Smith, John Dutton
Notable Rookies: Peyton Manning, Randy Moss, and Charles Woodson



Box 2:
Autographics (1:48): Jermaine Lewis
Helmet Heroes (1:24): Curtis Enis
Stardate 2001: Peyton Manning, Jerome Pathon
Notable Rookies: Peyton Manning, Randy Moss, and Charles Woodson



Overall a fun break for both boxes, just sad that I actually couldn't complete a set with two boxes, but at least I got the key rookies in both boxes.

If anyone has any Essential Credentials they are looking to sell, please reach out!!!

Figured it would be, it's one of those things where I'd honestly just like to be able to pull one Essential Credentials myself (doesn't matter who). I remember when I was a kid and this set coming out, always thinking it would be absolutely insane to get one of the Essentials with how rare they were...

$345/piece. Pretty expensive, but given the current state of wax, I figured I'd roll the dice. I don't wax much (this has to be the first wax I've busted in years), but figured it would be worth it for a shot at an Essentials and the nostalgia. (I still can't pull a damn Charlie Batch, lol.)

One other interesting tidbit, I found is that on the Checklist it would seem like they couldn't figure out what to call the 'Destination Honolulu' set. On the checklist, it's known as the 'Perennial Pro Bowlers' set.

Going to keep them for now. I'm probably going to open a few more boxes in the future and am hoping to put together my own pack pulled set. (I've got a base set, but just bought it off ebay for $20 a few years back.)

Great stuff! That's an interesting tidbit about the Destination set.
This box is probably like 2.5k-3k in NBA so I'd say that's a solid price for your break

Kinda what I thought. Now obviously the NFL cards don’t come close to the value on the super high end to the basketball high end when it comes to Credentials, but I will tell you that the football ones do not come up nearly as often... as basketball or baseball for that matter.

These have just skyrocketed in price, its amazing. I was going to buy a box of this, but I think I am just going to stick to the base set myself

I don’t really have a good gauge for what these were going for before. tbh, I could never find a box to bust until three came on the market in the last Few weeks and there’s a card shop that listed an open box of 22 packs as well. Wish I could find a case to bust as from what I’ve read you can usually pull 1-2 credentials per case. (Not sure to the accuracy of this)

I was never able to find a box, probably wouldn't have been able to afford it either but did pick up loose packs here & there whenever I could, enough so that I've got 4 hand collated base sets. And this, my one & only from football.

I ended up coming back into the hobby in 2012 after finding that my Emmit Smith Credential Future had become a popular card. It spurred a newfound interest in collecting.
