Best and Worst Group Break Story

Best: Pulled a Mike Trout 1/1 out of Luminance in a baseball three way on Jaspys.

Worst: Last night.....Wish I were making this stuff. Bought into an Panini Prizm Choice Hit Draft. 8 spots at 135 a spot. I bought two spots, feeling the second box after a horrible 1st box. Well boy was I right. Our Group Break Choice Box had not only a Zion Tiger Stripe but a Red Prizm Ja Morant auto. Needless to say cards didn't fall my way even though I had a 25% shot at landing either card.

BTW Trout happened last week, the Choice Draft of Doom happened last night!

Best - being big on Luka coming into last season, talked myself into spending by far the most that I had ever boshed on a break ($180), getting the Mavs, Clippers and Grizz in a Prizm half case. Hit a Sensational Signatures, LoTL Silver and base, and a base RC. Incredibly relieved to have gotten away with it.

Worst - went back to the well a week later. Took the Mavs and Clippers in a Prizm 5 box break for $130. Hit a Doncic phenoms and nothing else. Sold it for $7. Felt sick.

Best: The first break I ever joined. Mojobreak had a repack product. I believe it was $65 per spot but did not guarantee anything. Just 10 boxes with a single card. I was randomed the Miami Dolphins. Being a Bronco/Elway fan, I tried to trade. But the team with the Broncos traded for Cowboys. I tried to trade the new owner of Broncos for Miami, and was turned down. 9 cards in and nothing. In fact, to that point it had been a sub par case. But then the breaker opens the box and starts laughing. He sees the card before anyone else does. Says something like "man, and nobody would trade for this team". Then he shows a Marino dual 3 color Flawless auto /3. Boom! Best trade I never made.

Worst: Probably most recently joined a multi box hoops with cards from this year and last. It was in the $150 a team range. I bought 2. My teams- Raptors and Rockets. Literally the worst two teams you could get with last 2 years products. I ended up with a Lowry /50, a Siakam 3rd year Select variant, and an Ibaka purple Select. Those were the best cards. no rookie Terrance Davis (not that it would have been valuable) and nothing of rockets other than some base which I told him not to send.

Joined my first two breaks this week after getting back into basketball cards after 20+ years.

First one I had the Grizzlies in a mix of retail Chronicles (200 cards total) where I pulled 11 Ja's including a Luminance and teal Marquee, and 6 Clarke's. The second I had the Grizzlies and Raptors in a mix of Mosaic (179 cards total) where I pulled 2 Ja's (one of which was a silver prizm worth $400 raw) and 7 more random cards between both teams.

I'm assuming these results aren't typical and I don't think I'll be joining too many more breaks in the future, but I can definitely see the appeal. As a sidebar, I don't quite get why so many people are into random team breaks--getting cards from a team I have zero interest in would just be annoying (assuming you get any cards at all!).

Best- Blake Griffin logoman that I regrettably sold to the Blake Griffin logoman collector.

Worst- Being in many gbs with Clippers for 2018-19 NT. The best card to show for it was a Antawn Jamison /25 patch. Sick patch, but still.

If they aren't random, you'll have the same big spenders or those with connections always buying the best teams and you'll rarely have a shot.

You just have to buy the team when it's listed. I have gotten the 'best' team just by checking a website at the right time. And usually the best 1-2 teams aren't for sale but are randomed with the unsold teams anyway.

Worst: Bought the Suns in 7 cases of Immaculate and decided not to buy them in case 8. Marbury logoman comes out in case 8. Did well in the other cases, but that was a kick in the gut.

In 2011 i bought a couple boxes of Leaf best of baseball with Cards Infinity. I hit a BGS 9.5 Mike Trout Bowman Chrome blue refractor auto RC /150.

Felt good selling it later on that year for $1000. How'd i do?

Worst: Several occasions where I buy a team in consecutive breaks and then the breaker decides to break a Random Team/Number case in the middle of those consecutive breaks. Bought the lakers in breaks #1-4. Nothing Big out of #1-3. Suddenly breaker decides to do a random team break for the 4th case, Quad Lakers auto mentioned above comes out. Decided to only break with breakers that post schedules after that one if I am buying a team in consecutive breaks.

Worst ....

Recently had the Heat and some team like the wolves in a Court Kings break for 250$. Best cards were 2x Nunn rookies.

I got like 5-6 teams in a 2017-18 Select case break: Lakers, Hawks, Suns, Wizards... long story short... i was trying for a Ball/Kuzma Auto, didn't happen. I wanna say it was like a 500-800$ break. Did hit a bronze Courtside Ball /49, Blue Ball /299, couple silver balls, and some OK Kuzma, and John Collins rookies. At the time it was a blood bath. Just now, with Ball and Select going up, i sent a few in for grading so maybe it will end up OK.

I imagine there were a few other duds. I sometimes pick up a pistons slot, and normally there's not a whole lot to write home about on those. Usually cheaper, and your not really expecting much.

Early on in COVID considered joining a group break on another website for hoops 19-20 Totally Certified. Cost was like $45/spot, I think. Watched the random and I would have gotten the Pelicans.

Welp what got pulled: Zion auto black 1/1.

Could not stop steaming about it for a couple of days.

Oh and best, just remembered, was getting the last group break of 18-19 Optic hoops on here. I kept the ball rolling (can't believe we needed to at the time). Got the Mavs and best pulls were two Luka holos.

So can't be lucky all the time.

Got quite a run on BO breaks this year.

Took 5 spots in a Optic random # case break for 120$ total. Hit Zion, Coby , Melli and 2 others i dont remember.

Best ever- bought 1/2 spot for Hornets Immaculate- Hit 1/1 Immaculate A.Davis, Kidd Gilchrist, Cousins Tag then MKG Auto Patch.

Best this year- bought Nets team break on eBay for $15- hit K.Durant Finals Auto Ticket Nets Redemption

Worst- 2013-14 Random team Immaculate 6 boxes, hit Lakers- 0 hits with the Lakers having the most possible hits.

Best ever baseball- I hit Yankees Tek spot, Yankees fan wanted to trade spot for his Braves. I hit H.Aaron #/25 Auto on card except he signed off the card.

Best: $65 team break - Astros in a case of 2020 Topps hobby. Hit Yordans base platinum 1 of 1. Through a partial trade, the total value of it became 16k+ with the crazy spring baseball market - still have some remnants from the trade.

Worst: Nothing specific but usually strike out on big basketball breaks
Prices weren't crazy last year but nabbed the Mavs in a rt nt case break - went home with a Barea Colossal Materials relic.. At least it was a random team. Bought the Suns in another, nailed a Ayton true RPA....

Worst striking out. Best had 2 spots in a Flawless case. Every card was a 1/1. Was nuts. Actually had 2 spots in a snake draft. Ended up with picks 9, 10, 11 , 12. Bad luck, but good also.

Best : Took 1 spot in a firehand 12/13 NT Buckets and Panini Signatures dual case break. Got the thunder and got a dual KD/Westbrook logoman 1/2.

Worst: Took 2 spots in a team draft 10 case 13/14 Immaculate Buckets break. Random got picks 8 and 10. Thought to myself no way both Heat and Bucks will be there at 10 so I sold that pick. Surprisingly both teams were there at 8th. Debated for awhile and went with the Heat (got a Wade 25th anniversary patch and a lebron 1/1 sneaker sneek peek). Bucks ended up going 13th and Giannis rc logoman auto was pulled.

LCS had 2 cases of 12/13 Immaculate Buckets. I got to pick 1 and other was reserved for a friend. I saved my case to open for Christmas. Friend picks up his case the next day and pulls a Six Star Booklet logoman Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Durant, Westbrook, and Ibaka.

Best - Got a MJ Rookie PSA 8 from a Houdini graded full set break back in like 2013.

Worst - Everything after that.
