Default RBs and WRs finally getting hobby love...

Seems like a lot of skill position guys (outside of the QB position) are starting to get some much deserved hobby love - especially their prizm rookies. From last year’s class alone.. Hollywood Brown, Josh Jacobs, AJ Brown, DK Metcalf have all seen an uptick in the last week or two.

I know football is right around the corner and small bumps are typical - but I’ve never seen anything like this. Looks like some of the basketball craze is transferring over to the gridiron.

Can’t say I’m complaining... I’ve often thought when pulling rookies of some of these guys (or guys of their caliber and upside) that they should be bringing in better $.

Or one decent game and they skyrocket

You’re right, though.

I couldn’t imagine the jump if a rookie WR had a Randy Moss Thanksgiving Day game type performance.

Totally agree with OP. I’ve been trying to buy some Calvin Ridley and Mecole Hardman on the cheap, and struggled to do so. I was eventually able to get these for $50 a piece, but since then they’ve shot even farther up. And don’t get me started on McCaffrey....

Seems like an idea only a very few people on the board supported but here it is. Even guys who aren't slated to be the #1 position on their team are selling, guess we might see something really interesting this year.

It all started when Cardboard Chronicles started spamming his IG page with all of his "zags," buying up all of the top fantasy players (former and current) RPAs and other rare rookies. Not that I have a problem with that at all, and agree they've been undervalued forever, but I don't think the trend is a coincidence with its uncanny timing.

Also, could be crossovers from basketball, where sneakerbois see big name WRs/RBs going for next to nothing and the discords start buying them all up.

Good Lord! I just looked at what Prizm Godwins are going for right now. I have 6 set to likely pop at PSA next week. When I sent them in May they were getting $75-100.

We have another parallel to the basketball phenomenon: 2nd year prizms of elite dudes are taking off. E.g Lamar Jackson is now $25-$30 (I know we were focusing on other positions) it’s hard to look past the fact that his 2nd year prizm was under $10 two months ago.

Retired guys too. Calvin Johnson cards going absolutely bananas. Full disclosure I am selling some but the eBay history just in the last month is crazy - especially graded Topps Chrome RCs

Yep I sold a good amount of Wentz/McCaffrey 2nd year cards, didn't think they'd bite that soon. Shame I let go of all my McCaffrey optic rcs for like 7 bucks a couple weeks back

Yea, lots of the sneakerhead guys are into football too, least that was my experience growing up around hoopers so that makes perfect sense that some would gravitate towards football with the same buying habits. Somethings definitely brewing, when you got guys like Mason Rudolph selling....

I'm allowed to collect football too. Is it spamming if it's on my IG page haha? I don't care what anyone says. I'm having a blast and I can build an amazing PC of my favorite players for a fraction of basketball. I'm not doing it to pump and dump. I genuinely love these cards.

This. One of main reasons I went football first was opportunity. Vintage crazy cheap... Goats crazy cheap. Look at what a PSA 10 of the greatest TE in history is? Go position by position and its the same. Been buying non Randy Moss rookie refractors for crazy cheap... Almost all under 10 bucks. So much bang for your buck.

Well after I saw this thread, I decided to check ebay, I cant believe how much they are going for. I have hundreds of Kenny Golladay rookies, there was a moment in 2017 where I was trying to buy all of them lol. I might have to sell some of my extra copies

It's the shift to what ppl can afford .... QBs are outta reach now price wise. So next best thing ? The guy catching the pass and taking the hand-off.

Man this is a risky game to play. I get it that fantasy football guys are throwing money into cards but there are so many flash in the pans when it comes to non-qbs. And I can’t overstate injuries enough. It’s much more likely that your player suffers an injury than goes goes through an entire season unscathed AND performs as a top tier guy at their position.

bought a ton of McCaffrey 2 months ago.

For example I picked up a prizm psa 10 for $80 using my $40 ebay bucks. Thing is almost $1k now.

I love McCaffrey, but would you rather have that card or a PSA 10 Watson at the same price? Just seems like a no brainer to me, but perhaps McCaffrey will be the exception to the rule

I don't understand why McCaffrey's cards are selling for so much. People are valuing him as if he's the next Walter Payton.... Just crazy to me

god forbid he doesn't get injured and plays until lets say 32 or longer, he's on pace for 10K rushing yards 1000 Receptions and 10K receiving yards.... injuries aside he is on pace to be a top 5 RB of all time...

Lots of reasons:

-I think people are understanding that a lot of these skill position guys are undervalued.

-McCaffrey is the consensus number 1 overall fantasy pick. You might laugh but to a lot of these investor type players in the hobby, that’s certainly of note to them.

-His stats are incredibly impressive - he’s pacing to be one of the greats ever.

Certainly proceed with caution as it’s football and injuries aren’t just here & there, but rather expected to an extent. You just hope it isn’t career threatening or career altering.
